Last season all I heard all year was "United aren't at their best", "there's more to come from this team"... yet they won the league comfortably and but for arguably the best team in history, they would have been European champions aswell. So Fergie goes out, shores the defence up, buys what could be a new long-term keeper for them, and brings more pace in Ashley Young.

On the other hand Chelsea change their manager yet again, so something tells me they will be up there, but it will take a few games to get themselves gelling again by which time they could be cut adrift. Man City showed in the Charity Shield just now that they are talented individuals but when it comes to team ethos and spirit they are far behind United still. Dalglish is building something long-term at Anfield which could be the next proper challenge to United but it will probably take a year or two for that to shape itself. Tottenham and Arsenal are both miles away.

So I think there's only one possible winner. The challengers are all either standing still or going backwards, while the holders strengthen and strengthen. Anyone that can go 2-0 down and win 3-2 as routinely as they do have to be the team to beat... yet no bastard ever can.

What are everyone else's thoughts? Can anyone but United win it?

I read this response first and hoped so much you were betting against my prediction. Never mind.

Maybe he means 40.

Could this be Liverpools year though?

for the 10th year running.

All journos always pick Van Persie for top scorer as well I've noticed.

Suraez, if played regulary could get 20 on his own but I don't rate Carroll and will never be a world class international striker,

Newcastle must have thought they were dreaming when Liverpool came in with that offer.

I will give odds of 1000/1 to anyone who thinks Liverpool will win the league this year. Any takers?

Deal.

If Chelsea win the league, I'll give £20 to a charity of your choice.
If they don't win it, you donate £20 to my chosen charity.
