What do you think of our summer signings, who are so far Darren Pratley, Nigel Reo-Coker, Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears. Do you think these are good signings?

Very happy considering we've had a minimal amount to spend.

I think they are all pretty good signings. R-C and Pratley for free were excellent signings. Pratley looks quite creative and R-C was really solid in CM against Bury. Eagles and Mears are decent signings for £3mil for both of them.

If we forget about the Striker situation for a moment then we've managed to strengthen a number of positions for the minimal amount of money possible, good work by the tea-totaler.

They're not exactly the big name signings to get everyone excited but I think they'll all do ok. Hopefully we'll get one more in yet. A forward hopefully.

Against Bury Reo-Coker looked a lot better than Muamba, I reckon Muamba will get dropped pretty quickly. Not sure who Coyle will start in CM, but it won't be Muamba, he's not good enough and we need to sell him(if anyones  stupid enough to put a bid in for him).

Can Mears play at left back aswell because I am surprised OC has brought another right back in, unless he plans on selling Steinsson or Ricketts.

We're look pretty bare at left back at the moment, I presume Coyle see's either Ricketts or Gardner as Robbo's understudy.

Ricketts can also play at centre back, so if Cahill leaves, we'll have a couple of players there, and when Steinsson inevitably gets injured, we'll have back up at right back.

Which of the new players do you reckon will go straight into the first team? I reckon Reo Coker will start against QPR and the others will be on the bench.

I think they'll all start. Bye Steinsson, Muamba, Klasnic, Lee.

Lee won't be dropped for no reason.

Klasnic and Davies to start up top Reo-coker should start IMO.

I wouldnt mind seeing Lee floating around behind Davies if we do not see another striker brought in by the time we face QPR. A 4 4 1 1 kind of thing.

The signings could have been worse, Eagles is the only one who might surprise a few though.

Bolton have missed a trick by not signing a big name player. Their head of Marketing needs to be fired.

bwfcbob - here is the opinion that you basically wanted to hear from. I think they are good signings considering we have spent £2.75m in transfer fees. I imagine the signing on fees for the 4 of them will be a few million but yes I think Pratley has a lot of potential, Eagles has always looked a good creative attacking player. Mears will do a job as will Reo Coker. If we can get a good striker in things will look promising I think.

He's talking about Bolton signings, not Newcastle.

Well we"re in a better place than we were a week ago, reo-Coker and mears will be good solid signings, while I think eagles is a better options matt taylor if he'd considered a replacement.

With the exception of up front we're in a better place than we were last season....

Prately is better than Cohen
NRC far superior to JoB
Mears allows Ricketts to cover LB - both are better than JLS
Eagles for me is a better option going forward than Taylor - does open us up a bit at the back however

I think we've made some really good buys, I think when you look at our central midfield, ironically there's only Muamba cost anything and he's the worst of the lot. Holden, Pratley and NRC were free and Minidavo cost about a million and between them I think we have a strong unit there. I reckon Eagles will offer more of a threat from the bench than Matty and a good right back as competition to Gretskis can't be a bad thing. When Rickets comes back, in my view should be in the centre where alongside Knight he was very strong a couple of seasons ago when Cahill was I'll.
And we are still about 4 million up without selling Cahill so if we could get a bargain striker in and another on loan we will have greatley improved our squad for little spend.

DLH sums it up well for me.  These aren't signings that will make you leap out of your seat but they are improvements over the players they replaced.

That being said, we barely limped over the finish line last season so incremental improvements on Tamir Cohen and Matty Taylor may not be enough.

Mears will start as he started every game under Coyle at Burnley when fit.
Reo-Coker will start.
It'll be between Pratley and Mavies, might go Pratley with it being an away game.
Eagles on bench unless we play 4-4-1-1 and in that case he'll be behind Davies.

Looking back on this, I can't believe how wrong we all were Smiley. Eagles is pretty shite, NRC isn't bad, Pratley is terrible and Mears got nobbled in training by the lump we know as Zat Knight. In terms of the rest of our signings, Boyata is decent but injured, Ngog is unimpressive and we don't really know what Tuncay and Kakuta are like because they haven't played a league game in their preferred positions yet.
