Captain Charisma

« on: 26 June 2011, 09:41 PM »

I was watching this tv show last, I forgot the channel, I think the program was called Pen and teller or something like that. Basically it's a magic show.

A blindfolded guy somehow managed to pull out five cards out of a deck, which when turned over, were a diamond royal flush (not sure if that's the correct term?  Grin).

I've never been over-impressed with magic but what's your take on it? Is there such a thing?

I just can't believe someone could pull that off, without there being some sort of a con behind it but of course if you believe in magic, it was probably a good "trick?"

I know a guy who can be chatting away to you while he shuffles the cards and can then deal whatever cards he chooses. It's pretty amazing really. Needless to say he's not allowed to deal when we play poker.

I like Magic it's good to watch if you get a talented performer.

Magic is all just "fake" though of course.

the people i can't stand are these "mediums" who fleece grieving people and pretend they're speaking to their dead mum or whatever.

They should be banned.

Surely that's the whole point of magic ? Slight of hand etc etc. Some magic tricks are very clever and are very hard to work out. That's the beauty of magic.

Le God, I wasn't referring to your last post. I have no time for the Derek Acorah's and Doris Stokes of this world. They are parasites who prey on the vulnerability of people who have lost loved ones. It's a world away from performing a card trick.

I could not stop laughing at him from the moment he walked on stage to when he walked off.

All corny stuff I know - but he always made me smile.

I was even laughing when he died - I thought it was some stunt he was playing!

Tommy Cooper was actually a member of the Magic Circle in his own right. He could do all the tricks but his gimmick was in failing the task. A very funny fella.

I was laughing when he died. What a way for him to go.

Missed the Penn and Teller episode last night but im guessing it'll be repeated or online somewhere. Last week's trick at the end of the show was pretty good though:

Ah thank you, will catch that some time tomorrow. Having finished college, i've only had Jezza and Bargain Hunt to fill my day so anything is a welcome change.

Magic winds me up. Did anyone see that berk Darren Brown claim to have picked out the winning lotto numbers that time? It was so clearly camera trickery but then he claimed he and some helpers just averaged some numbers. Stupid man.
