Why is there so little support for national team football in England?
In the US it is pretty self explanatory But in England with loads of good players why will the public (good fans) generally not support them?

Because the players couldn’t care less and look to avoid international duties if possible; it’s seen as a bloody chore instead of an honour.
How good they are, has nothing to do with it, it’d the lack of pure desire to play for your country, which gets many fans disillusioned, Dave.

The England national team is one of the best supported teams at any tournament we're in. Fact.

To answer the question (texan) Dave the reason, for me anyway, is we just feel like the players don't care as long as their fat pay cheques aren't affected. I despise the fact we resort to foreigners to manage our team and really think every nation should be managed by one of their countrymen. The country doesn't have any great managers? Tough!
But then when we offer our current Johnny Foreigner a massive diamond-encrusted new deal ahead of the World Cup in which he should be judged, and isn't sacked after the subsequent failing in said World Cup, it just completely takes the piss out of the real fans, and also those players waiting in the wings who may never get their shot just because they don't play for the Sky 4 Plus City.

It's a crying shame. I used to love supporting the national team. At one point I was close to going to the away games but with the expense it would probably have to be instead of Bolton, rather than aswell as, so I knocked it on the head. I won't find it the same until this generation of the England side has passed on.
