Just been on SSN that Coyle thinks Holden will be out until October at the earliest.

September was always optimistic for snapped knee ligaments in March. We play Chelsea on October 1 and we'll lose that anyway so it doesn't matter if he plays but hopefully he'll return on October 15 at Wigan

Which is why we desperately need a quality central midfielder. Mavies can't be relied on as he is so injury prone, which leaves us with the genius Muamba, and if reports are to be believed this Pratley lad, who couldn't even get in Swansea's first 11.

iirc that was due to tactical reasons, not anything to do with his ability.

Believe its also partly down to him not signing a new contract.

I understand what you're saying chaps but it would take a pretty brave/stupid manager not to play his strongest 11 players in a play-off final. If he was dropped for them reasons alone then fair enough but if it was just the fact he wasn't good enough to start then I very much doubt he will be good enough to start for us. We don't need squad players we need proper first teamers, preferably ones better than Muamba.

We really did miss out on Nolan if you ask me. We need depth, and proven quality, and Nolan provides both for no transfer fee. It looks like MD and Muamba to start in the middle then as it stands. That isn't good enough, we need new players now come on Coyle. Time to get the wallet out.

Did he? Oh right I didn't know that, but even so I'd have paid that for him. He's better than the majority of what we either have or have been linked with.

I think he did. Maybe I've made it up. Fúck knows. I'd have had him for free but not £4million.

I thought they paid £5 million for him? That said I might not have been paying attention.

Nolan wouldn't work in Coyle's 442, he is not mobile enough to get up and down the pitch. If we still played 451 with Nolan at the front of the middle 3 then yes i'd have him back in a flash.
Of all the players released, I'd like to see Reo-Coker, he really impressed me at the Reebok a few months back. Although I read somewhere he was after silly money which Villa weren't prepared to offer him, so I doubt we will either.

Wet Sham paid £3.75M with add ons if they get promoted in the first season.
Pratleywas on the bench because Swansea made a tactical change (I know it is about 4 years since we made one of those). If he is on the way to us then he will be a useful addition and if we don't sign any big name midfielders he will be pushing for a start. He is a talent and an Owen Coyle type of player so will get plenty of time on the pitch pre-season as Owen will want to see what he offers.

I'm not being argumentative here but genuinely interested. In what way did he not fit the tactical change? Can you elaborate?

They played 4-2-3-1 He isn't a specialized holding midfielder so wouldn't fit as part of the '2' He isn't a specialized attacking midfielder so didn't fit as the middle of the '3' In its simplest terms.

I'm of the opinion, that if he's good, he'll be in the team.
Unless of course, the reason, isn't a tactical one, which I think is the case here.

Is that not one of the problems we have in attracting player of real quality, we do not pay BIG money to these guy's each week. Not saying they deserve it, I actually think they are all paid to much, no one is worth £100000 per week. Yes their work lasts only a few years, but in these hard times that happens to many of us and we then just go out and join the long queue to see if someone will take us on. So what difference is it to them. Yes the big boys will pay the money to get the best players who will get them into the Champions League so that they earn more money to pay the big wages. I feel this will just lead to another division which will be european and the likes of Bolton etc will end up in the Premier league and with a hope that someday they may get promoted to the Euro league.
We can dream
