Celebrated his ninetieth Birthday today. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea but I find his quirky British eccentricity quite fetching. He is one of those rare breed of individuals who is powerful enough  to be able to speak his own mind without worrying about the fear of prosecution.

Because of his public profile all of his ' inappropriate comments ' always make headline news but if you actually break down his comments they nearly always have a ring of truth about them.

He also has that mischievous twinkle in his eye which makes me think that he is probably great company when he gets the chance to let his hair down away from the cameras.

Which would be great, except he's Greek.

He was born in Corfu but left the island while he was still in his cot. He spent his early years in the UK and joined the Royal Navy at 18. He's about as Greek as fish and chips.

And the Queen's not German either.

I quite like the Queen. There is something about our Royal Family that sets us apart from the rest of the World. Even the Aussies love the Queen and that's saying something.

No wonder Didles thought it was ok to finger his cousin when our monarch sets such an example.

Top bloke and his missus is a top woman. This country would be much better with them two in charge. That Oliver Cromwell has a lot to answer for.

I heard somewhere that the Royal Families private art collection, if sold, could wipe out the countries debts. Yet we give them millions every year. Madness.

I am sure that for most of us ' commoners ' all the pomp and ceremony comes across as a pile of horseshit. In reality, the Royal Family bring in an awful lot of income to the UK by way of tourism. The Japanese in particular make an annual pilgrimage to Buckingham Palace and London in general.

The fact that the Queen is our head of state and impartial at the same time puts us on a far higher echelon than other countries where Presidents and Prime Ministers both eat out of the same trough.

Although we are a small nation our Royal Family commands respect throughout the World and as such I think it is something we should all be proud of.

No-one is whiter than white ( Albino's precluded ) but in the main I think our Royal Family do an all round decent job.

Doesn't mean we should give them millions though. They're some of the wealthiest people in the world. In this day and age it's bullshit.

In fairness they have taken a massive hit in their allowances over the last decade. They had to shell out quite substantially for the fire at Windsor Castle when it was discovered that the insurance wasn't up to scratch.

A lot of B list Royals no longer get a gratuity and now have to work for a living. Prince William is even having to work overtime flying helicopters over the Welsh peninsula just to keep the wolves from the door.

If I had said, ' Keep the sheep from the door ' I would have been criticized for sexist stereotyping of Welsh farmers. You have to be so careful these days.
