Jesus - what is the world coming too? It's a game of football ffs! - Parcel bombs have been sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon and two other high profile fans of the club. Sources have told the BBC that the devices were "viable" and appeared to have been intended to "kill or maim". More here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-13129139

Is it some stupid religion thing? I have never really understood it as it seems to be on a different level to other rivalries in football.

Yeah, well, apparently Rangers are seen as a Protestant club, while Celtic are seen as a Catholic club, so that's where the "old firm" rivalry historically came from...

Do you not feel that is just an exuse for the fans to kick off when the real reason is the fact their league is so crap they have to go back to religion to get any real excitement into the game. Lets face it nobody will win the league apart from them 2 so because they are so bored of it they just do stupid things like send bombs to other managers houses.

Ha, yeah, I agree with you.
You know what football is like though, any sign of past hatred, and it sticks and it often overrides, that they are playing football, not a civil war...

For me it's beyond football, there so bored of playing in the shittest league you can think of they are just turning up to cause trouble. Though you get the stupid pundits like Charlie Nicholas saying you couldn't wish to play in a better game when in fact its just Bury v Rochdale type football but with a bigger crowd.

Religion manages to involve itself in most things.

People who support Celtic have never been known to blow things up?

Isn't that like saying Arsenal fans are known to destroy American landmarks? Technically true, but not exactly related.

Not really. The Celtic - Rangers things is about more than football. I expect the letter bombs are to do with more than just football. Lennon has been receiving death threats for years.

Celtic fans didn’t send letter bombs. Celtic weren’t just nailed (again) for sectarian singing. Celtic didn’t have a century-long policy excluding members of the other faith. One side is clearly worse than the other and false equivalency doesn’t help the problem.
