Ok, let's get the show back on the road with this splendid match up for our third Quarter Final - between the game that meant we stayed up in the Premiership and at the same time sending West Ham down, or that glorious, glorious season in the second division.

The West Ham game beat Meggson's last match in the previous round by a score of 17 to 4, whilst the '100 goals/98 points' saw of that electric night in Hull by 13 to 2.

The teams that day against West Ham were (note that our favourite ref was in charge!) -

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, N'Gotty, Bergsson, Laville, Charlton, Mendy, Campo, Frandsen, Okocha (Andre 89), Pedersen, Djorkaeff (Nolan 82).
Subs Not Used: Poole, Facey, Barness

Booked: Mendy, Laville, Campo.

West Ham: James, Johnson, Repka, Pearce, Brevett, Lomas, Cole, Cisse (Les Ferdinand 65), Sinclair, Defoe, Kanoute.
Subs Not Used: Van Der Gouw, Hutchison, Dailly, Breen.

Sent Off: Pearce (90).

Booked: Johnson, Defoe, Lomas, Cole.

Attendance: 27,160

Referee: U Rennie (S Yorkshire).

And the match report here -

As for the 96/97 Wanderers, well I found on the much-maligned Wikipedia a whole page of facts and figures for that season - happy reading!

So, who you going to vote for then?

The West Ham game was great but the 96/97 season was something else. We destroyed teams week after week. We put 7 past Swindon and 6, should've been 7, past Spurs. I think we scored 6 another couple of times that season aswell. Winning the league at City was brilliant and then winning our last ever game at Burnden 4-1 with McGinlay getting the last goals was the perfect ending. A great great season that wins it for me.

The best match of 96/97 in my opinion was hammering Tottenham but that was not at the same level of joy as beating West Ham.

I was one of very few Bolton fans who wasn't very impressed with Bolton's 96/97 team.I didn't think the midfield or defence was strong enough to hack it in the Prem and put that opinion down in words in the fanzine White Love.Turned out the 96/97 team wasn't strong enough to survive 12 months later.

Gotta be West Ham
