Manny / Sluffy

Not sure if this is possible at all, it's just I have seen this on another site but is there anyway of inserting something like the new "spoiler" feature, that would enable us to embed video clips onto the website?
Things like youtube etc; it would save people having to click on a link, to see the video.

What does everyone think?

I think it is a great idea - I suggest it myself quite a while back!

Manny told me back then about it would take up too much bandwidth (or something like that) and that we couldn't do it - don't know if things have changed since though?  Hope they have!

It could clog up the site and you would get the same suspects doing it constantly and clogging up the site, I dont need to say who those people are.

It is a good idea as then you can see what the video is prior to clicking and so decide whether you want to waste 2 or 3 minutes of your life or not on it.

Instead of external links, is there a way on BA to put them in your post and it shows in the thread?

I can do it on other forums using codes or these brackets for example .

Is it possible?

We looked into this sometime last year and decided against it. One reason is because none of the plugins I searched for actually worked and also I've seen other forums where after a while their boards are full of videos displaying error messages because they've been taken down from YouTube or wherever else.

We've got a bit of a problem with spammers at the moment too so it could cause security problems. If and when we get rid of the problem I'll have another look around.

No, no, no.

This site is slow enough as it is, I don't come on here to look at YouTube clips.

The reasons why embedding wasn't added last year still stand.

As for the adverts Abdul, without them the forum would not exist. Ask Traf how hard it is to keep a website running.

I appreciate that.  Now I'm not sure entirely how it works but don't you get more revenue from people actually clicking the links?  And as far as I'm aware you're not allowed to ask people to do so, so I just asked people not to and leave it up to them to act accordingly from there.

The adverts don't generate any revenue unless somebody goes on to buy a particular product from whoever we advertise.

Other deals are in place where a business will pay an upfront fee but I won't go into that on here.

I think it's a fair question - I don't think anyone wants to feel that they may be being exploited for posting on here (unlike some sites).

The cost to running this place is not enormous but it's not free either and at the end of the day costs need to be covered.

The little bit of advertising the site gets goes towards these costs - Manny isn't making anything on the site and the mods work for free.  Nobody pays to come on here and the ads we have are not intrusive - so everyone wins I hope.

Embedding videos is not widely used option and I also think it is not needed. I hope that it is allowed to post the link of YT video if needed Smiley

Yeah, we've no problems with linking to Youtube and similar stuff.
