You assume he gives anything up at all.

Well, I hope he does, otherwise he's going to hell with the fruity infidels.

And? I wouldn't like the idea of not eating for 9 hours every day for however long, even if I could tuck in before and afterwards.

I could never do that... Smiley

Abdul, this year I didn't give up anything in particular; just tried to be more helpful etc. I think I will try and give up spending next time. Smiley

EDIT: It isn't mandatory for Christians to give up something for lent.

I wanted to give up alcohol for lent this year, not because I'm a Christian really but just to see if I can really. I mean if women can give it up for nine months a time when they are pregnant, I'm sure I can do it for six weeks or so. However last season we played Blackburn away a week into it, and a Saturday night of Wigan at home plus a Courteeners gig fell in lent.

I'll try again next year.

I think you might be missing the point of fasting. It's not an idea they actually "like".

I said that I didn't like the idea, i.e. I doubt I could do it, not that those who fast get any pleasure out of it!

I don't understand the whole 'giving up' something for a short time. What good is that going to do? If it's something you want to give up, just give it up and don't go back to it.

It's about putting our bodily cravings to the back of your mind. Jews believe that fasting will focus your mind to prayer and contemplation as you are not worrying about what you are going to eat.

Whereas, in reality, it's all bollocks.

I was merely explaining the reasoning behind it. Though, I take your point.
