You are here to moderate the site in the interests of the majority, not to the letter of the law.

It's not illegal to say you enjoy looking at photos of naked children, if a poster started making those sort of comments would you just shrug your shoulders and hide behind the law?  I hope not.

You should moderate this site to a certain standard of decency, most decent people find racism and homophobia abhorant. It's clear from the poll that a lot of people don't like it, and let's not forget a lot of people have already left the site so won't even have seen the poll.

Do the decent thing and stop making excuses. Would cutting out racism and homophobia really make this site worse?

I modderate the site to the best of my ability, trying to balance freedom of speech with the best interest of the site.

Yes I could cut out any and all posts that I might consider being even the teeniest bit racist or homophobic but that would kill the site.

In real life people say un-PC things - the site in my opinion should reflect reality - not some sanitised, puritanical and idealised ether world.

I don't like racism or homophobia either, but putting my hands over my ears won't make it go away in real life and simply modding and deleting posts on here won't make it go away from the internet either.

My belief is that racism and homophobia should be tackled not simply removed.  I dare say people like Sharps will have thought more about these issues in the last few days from reading peoples views in these threads, than if we simply removed his posts without comment ad nauseum.

That's how I feel things should be done, those are my convictions on the matter and not as you believe my excuse for doing nothing.

As for how good a mod I am, I don't really care.

I do my best and if people think that isn't good enough then I'll happily stand aside and let someone else do it.

And on the Amos front, I got a pm from him (from another forum we are both on) asking me to tell everyone that Psammead is not him.

I can also state though that Psammead has posted from a number of ip addresses, one of which is shown as originating from Holland.

I leave it up to you if you want to believe Amos or not.

I don't think Sharps should be banned.  I think he (and others) should be censored as what is said is very often over the lines of decency. 

I don't see where any modding is actually taking place if you don't control racist, homophobic, etc. posts.  If you aren't willing to control these type of things, what exactly are you modding?

Racism is not a taboo on here but some modding does take place.Around a year ago I posted a thread starter about the 63/64 Sheffield Weds v Bolton reserves programme which upset one of the moderators and was removed.I was given no reason for its removal but suspect it was because the moderator thought the post was an advertisement.

Agreed. I don't know of any site that is comfortable with the term "w**s". You don't even see that on WW.

At no point did I ask for Sharps to be banned. Sharps can be a funny chap, I just want the blatant racism to stop as it is damaging this site.

I sent a pm to manny but he didn't even reply, I have no idea what his standpoint is but unfortunately his silence suggests he is happy with the site and reputation. I am currently trying to ascertain whether the advertisers on here think the same.
