Don't know if anyone noticed but earlier on today we past the 100,000th post made on Burnden Aces! Just to put that into some perspective - Bolton Banter, which as been going since October, 2004 has made a total of just over 130,000. Of course ww and tw are some distance ahead of us - but I think it reasonable to say that since our start just 19 months ago, we have gone from nowhere to the third biggest BWFC forum in terms of current postings / viewings / popularity. A big thank you to everyone for making us what we are. Here's to the next 100,000 posts!

LOL, I was about to post, the site couldn't have done it without Sharps, so well done to him (and everyone else).

The modding on this site is generally pretty good, if anything it's a bit too relaxed at times. A lot of people can't take stick from you, Fat Sharps and the rest, and I can bet a lot of guests reading the board are reluctant to sign up as a result.

We only give stick to the site perverts. Like you. How old was that girl you fancied again?

It's difficult to know what to do really. We would simply like to have a forum where people can come to chat about all things BWFC and have a bit of a laugh whilst they are on - but how do you achieve it? There were already a number of BWFC sites out there when we started - but for one reason or another they did not feel like 'home' to me, so I was happy to pitch in and help make this site something like how I believe a forum should be run. The thing is though is that the forum can only be as good as the regular posters we attract here – so what one poster might find amusing, another poster might not. For instance, I’ve never minded people ‘wumming’, as long as they aren’t too offensive, I usually enjoy what they do – and a bit of controversy and argument gives in my view, a bit of interest and ‘edge’ to the site (many other BWFC forums I find either too boring, cliquey, or abusive). However, that is only my way of thinking. I know of many that simply cannot stand various ‘wummers’ and will have nothing to do with the site because of them – their loss I feel. Of course there are many other posters who post with their own individual styles – and again not every style is popular with everyone else. For instance I don’t like reading posts about borderline racism or continual gay references – I also am old fashioned and think the female posters on here should not be subjected to the number of inappropriate personal comments as they are – but I do realise that I am older than most on here and my standards may be somewhat outdated in today’s society. I also know that if I modded the forum in the way I view things, then most if not all of the younger posters would soon find the place boring and post elsewhere. I’ve always aimed for the site to be open to everyone. What I mean is that people tend to post where everybody else agrees with them – a bit like ‘birds of a feather flock together’. I’ve always hoped that anyone who has views that conflict with the majority could post on here and be allowed to do so, even if nearly everyone disagreed with them. For instance, I’ve always been a big fan of Kevin Davies (first name on the team sheet for me) but I’ve never had a problem of people holding a vastly different view saying so (although the Youtube video was a bit much!). So how do you actually mod the site? You need to allow access to people, knowing that some of the posters, actually put other people off from posting on here. Conversely you allow posters to post their ‘humour’ on here, that frankly I find somewhat offensive – but others seem to like it. Therefore do we ban the wummers so others will post who wouldn’t normally? Or should the mods start to ban people they simply do not like – or as what we do now, permit an open approach knowing that most of the time it will be fine but knowing that there will be some posts made that are not really what we (or maybe I should say I) would wish to see and read? Rightly or wrongly I rather have some posts cross the line every now and again, than to censor and / or ban posters and not allowing them a certain latitude of free speech. Whether my way of thinking is the right way for the site, only you the posters can decide – if you all stop posting, then I know that I was wrong! I think for now though we are doing ok – we are certainly the fastest growing BWFC site over the last year, we were probably the most active BWFC site over the summer and we are probably the third most active BWFC site behind the long established ww and tw forums – so I think we are on the right lines. So to paraphrase the saying – Burnden Aces can please some of our posters all of the time, or all of our posters some of the time – but we can’t please all of our posters all of the time! Hope you agree.

I kind of disagree with this as I used to post on Bolton Banter a lot and the vast majority of posts I tended to agree with the other members on, and vice versa with mine. However, I stopped due to the inactivity on there. It's different on here, the majority disagree with me on matters but because it's more active I stick around. The site seems to be going a bit quiet and from what I can gather there seems to be an increase in crap threads like the grey pube one and how flowers are pretty and stuff like that, hence I've tried to strike up a thread or two on something a bit more interesting and dare I say it, intellectual. I also get the feeling a lot of members feel 'bullied' off the site. There's people like Faroe Boy, jayjay23 and Shaft that used to get a fair bit of stick from the regulars, and I joined in every now and again when it was something daft, but I don't think some people can handle it and it's driving people away. It may just be an indication to increase the 'strictness' of the modding in my opinion. While I'm all for freedom of speech, I do feel the site crosses the line at times and it does need the mods to step in to stop the crap. It's all about getting the balance. I think this is one of the only forums I've come across where the modding is so relaxed, but as I say it's up to Manny and the rest of you as to how you think you should do it, just a thought though.

All the slagging basically kills most of the debates; at least stymies it.
I get the impression most people just come on here purely to slag people off, try and prove they're better than others and start arguments rather than talk about Bolton.
I like a bit of banter and piss take thats what forums are all about, but some of the stuff i read on here i honestly wonder how anyone can find it funny or impressive.

As an observer, it can be embarrassing to see new posters bombarded with abuse after they've posted in the "new here" section.
Different strokes for different folks, and all, but I fail to see the "humour" in that kind of treatment.
I also found it interesting to read this in your post, Sluffy:
"...I know of many that simply cannot stand various ‘wummers’ and will have nothing to do with the site because of them – their loss I feel..."
So, you are willing to lose "many" new posters rather than deal with the few 'wummers'? That makes no sense.
I'm not saying wummers should be automatically banned, but you know who the repeat offenders are and apparently turn a blind eye because you see the humour in it.

As usual it's just words. The people who can't write English should be blocked from posting. They contribute NOTHING to this site. Similarily the blatant racism and homophobia should be stopped, the fact it's here is down to two people: sluffy & manny as they do nothing about it. Imagine you log onto this site for the first time and what are you faced with? Magoo & Tomr writing in broken English and Sharps seeing every thread as a chance to make a racist "joke". Who wants to post on a site like that? But of course, Sharps contributes 50% of the posts on here and the other 50% are posts slagging him off. Quantity over quality sluffy? This site could have been massive, instead it's become a home for racists and idiots. If you don't believe me, see what the BA reputation is around the internet.

I personally agree with you - but I don't mod to my personal values otherwise the forum would only have old farts like myself posting on it. Magoo and Tomr are infrequent posters who most of us can put up with their occasional text / error filled posts. Sharps is an entirely different matter. He brings good and bad to the forum. We get that he wants to portray himself as racist and homophobic and that as such a prolific poster it probably does damage the site in many peoples eyes – but can be funny at times and does create a lot of banter on the site. If he could cut out the former and concentrate on the latter then he would be the ideal forum poster. I don’t see it as simply a choice of quality over quantity (bb as that and no one posts there!) but a balance between the two. Should we ban Sharps for being a racist and homophobic – yes certainly we should if he ever posted such stuff on the forum – but he just about keeps to the right side of the line. At the end of the day we are simply a footy forum, we aren’t here to change the world, just some place to come to chat about our team and have a bit of a laugh. When I was much younger being racist and hating ‘queers’ was the norm – but times have now moved on. I’m not stupid enough to think that everyone is no longer a bigot but those that still are tend to keep it to themselves and not post their opinions at every opportunity on a forum. So for now unless Sharps voluntarily cuts out the racist and homophobic undertones that are probably the sole cause of this sites negative image around the BWFC sites, then nothing much can change, as he hasn’t blatantly crossed the line on these issues for some time and we simply don’t want to start banning posters simply because we don’t like them. As some bloke once said – I disapprove of what he says, but I will defend his right to say them.

I think that is the most ridiculous statement I've ever read, and shame on you for putting your name to it. Some of the stuff Sharps has posted this week has been shameful, if this doesn't cross the line I dread to think where the line actually is. And people wonder why forums don't have closer links with the club. What club wants to be associated with a site that peddles racism and homophobia? And finally sluffy, for the 100th time you have written that you mod to manny's standards and not your own personal standards. Then fcuking quit!!! You don't get paid to do it so why the fcuk are you happy to turn a blind eye to the shite that's written on here?
