For those who didn't, he took a player on, did a one two with one player, took another player on, did another one two with another player and then hit it in the bottom corner.
My point is, that is the sort of football I want to see from Bolton and Kevin Davies and Elmander. We rarely seem to score goals any more where you think 'Oh wow, what a goal'. Its usually like 'that was scrappy'.
I want to see one twos and dummies and shooting from 25 yards bouncing into the net from the under side of the cross bar.
Anyone else wish Owen Coyle would play that sort of football?

You want Kevin Davies to model himself on Messi? Good luck with that, I know some people on here rank Davies alongside Messi in terms of talent but it's clearly never going to happen

This is a great thread. Can I add I wish Zat Knight could defend like Cannavaro, and that Muamba could distribute the ball like Andrea Pirlo as well?

Howfen, don't get smart, it doesn't suit you. All I am saying is that I want to see more flair and to see us score some good goals again. I want to see bicycle kicks and banana shots instead of goal mouth scrambles. I don't think I am asking for too much.

I'm not trying to get smart, I'm just saying that the reality is, hell will freeze over before we see any one-two passing, movement and mobility from KD. Elmander is capable of doing it but I still don't expect it. We've not scored a 'good' goal since I can remember, and the last one where I thought 'wow' was Okocha's free kick against Villa in the cup semi final.

We all want more flair but we have a bunch of grafters. Only stuart Holden can pass and because the midfield is devoid of movement his talents wasted.

until we ditch 90% of our squad and get a rich owner we'll have to put up with kick and rush and the odd decent move.

Did we not score a "good" goal at West Ham?

OK fair point.
I was thinking to myself today that other than a free kick when did we last score a goal from a long range shot from outside of the box?
Nat said last season that Kevin Davies is our most creative player lol, but maybe its true, maybe that is why we play such rubbish football and never score any good goals any more.

No we didn't. Its that what counts as a good goal now, a pass to the winger, he crosses it and then our striker heads it in? You can see goals like that in pub football.

Do you get more points for walking it into the net or from scoring from 35 yards?

Let's try and get the basics right first, shall we? We've only just reacquainted Elmander with the net!

Campo against Spurs which was a Paul Robinson error. Before that, Okocha against West Ham, 2003.

Firstly the Messi goal was one of the greatest goals I've seen.

As for long range goals for Bolton, Nolan v Spurs 1-0 @ the Reebok, Stelios v Norwich.

Overrated. he cant even score a penalty, Super Kev buried his pen hence he is better than Messi.

End of thread lock it now.

I think you are dreaming Shaft. I rate Davies highly and Elmander has shown what a good player he is ( I have always said he is) but they are never going to be able to do the things that Messi does; it just isn't in their makeup.
I imagine Coyle would like to score entertaining goals but we don't have the players and until (as Le God says) we get some serious investment; it isn't about to change anytime soon.
Not saying that we won't score some good goals this season but please don't expect us to do it in every match; barce- esque style.

I still say the defending was poor for that Messi goal.

Decent goal. Hardly one of the greatest ever though.
