Sam takes the blame for shock derby defeat

SAM Allardyce apologised to Wanderers' fans today, accepting full responsibility for last night's Worthington Cup derby shaker.

"I pick the team and it's my fault," the manager said after seeing his side beaten 1-0 and outplayed by Third Division Bury at the Reebok.

"I will take the criticism which will come our way - and rightly so after the performance we put on.

"Our paying fans were bitterly let down by us. I can only apologise and say to them that it won't happen too often."

Trivia - It was David Holdsworth only game for us too, but he did set a Bolton first whilst doing so!

Holdsworth's unhappy reunion

DAVID Holdsworth had mixed feelings today after claiming his place in the record books.

The former Watford, Sheffield United and Birmingham centre-back made his Wanderers' debut in last night's cup defeat and when he was joined on the field by his brother, Dean, they became the first twins ever to play for the club.

I always remember Mendy scoring that own goal, he never scored for us at the right end, but I still don't know how he managed to put that in his own net.
