Houllier for the Villa job

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11677_6359276,00.html

Total wanker and a very overrated manager. I look forward to Villa becoming a very below average side again

Better manager than Martin ''never looks you in the eye'' o'neil in my opinion and left Liverpool with a better side than what that spanish wanker did.

Awful manager.

My view too.

He bought some real duffers whilst at Liverpool - Markus Babbel, Nicky Barmby, Pegguy Arphexad, Grégory Vignal, Emile Heskey, Gary McAllister, Igor Biscan, Christian Ziege, El Hadji Diouf, Salif Diao and Bruno Cheyrou, Stephane Henchoz, Vladimír Smicer, Sander Westerveld, Titi Camara, Eric Meijer and Djimi Traore.

He also turned down Anelka after a loan period at Anfield!

He wasted absolute millions and played a massive part in the Liverpool decline.

For that reason alone I like the man - but I'm not sure he will do anything special at Villa

Once again we will play against a club with a new manager, will be Houllier's first game at home when we play 'em. We beat Grant and West Ham in his 1st game at home, but Villa with a new manager will give them more of an edge IMO.

He bought some real duffers whilst at Liverpool - Markus Babbel (unfair to call him a duffer as he did catch an illness there), Nicky Barmby (wasn't that bad for them, had injury problems), Pegguy Arphexad (haven't the foggiest who he is), Grégory Vignal (yep), Emile Heskey(yep), Gary McAllister(disagree he was quite good for them, short term fix mind), Igor Biscan (agree), Christian Ziege (agree), El Hadji Diouf (agree although alright for us every 1/4 games), Salif Diao (agree) and Bruno Cheyrou (agree, Zidane I don't think so), Stephane Henchoz (disagree, shite with Wigan alright with Liverpool), Vladimír Smicer (agree), Sander Westerveld (disagree, good with Liverpool shite everywhere else), Titi Camara (agree), Eric Meijer (don't remember him) and Djimi Traore (completely agree).

Still have to agree that large fee's were wasted on the majority of them.

Bit harsh on a few of them.

Babbel was great until he caught he got that disease which sounds like that Spanish Journalists name.
Heskey held his own with a world-class Owen and a still pretty good Robbie Fowler. Lived off his good spell at Liverpool for years thereafter though.
Barmby and McAllister were decent enough short term options.
Henchoz was a very good defender for Liverpool. Not quite Hyypia. But certainly no Traore either.
Smicer I thought was a good player. Arguably a little out of his depth at Liverpool but a good servant nonetheless. Would have been a great signing for a mid-table team.

That said was never a big Houllier fan and he did buy a lot of shite, and I think he'll do an average/bad job at Villa. MON- who I do dislike- achieved consectuive top six finishes. No way will Houllier. Top 8 would probably represent a good season all things considered.

Nice guy. Average manager. Watch their academy go to pot. We'll have Clark, Albrighton and Bannan please.

Aston Villa appoint Gerard Houllier as new manager

Former Liverpool and Lyon boss Gerard Houllier has been appointed the new manager of Aston Villa.

The 63-year-old left the post of technical director at the French Football Federation to return to English football after six years away.

He takes over from caretaker Kevin MacDonald, who had been in charge since Martin O'Neill left on 9 August.

Chief executive Paul Faulkner said: "He [Houllier] understands the ethos of our club and shares our core values."

No announcement has yet been made on the future of MacDonald who stepped up from his position of reserve-team coach when O'Neill left before the start of the season.

I don't think its a bad appointment this to be fair. Houllier had Liverpool on the up for quite a while when he first went there, when he won three cups in 2000/01, and then to 2nd the year after. But despite them falling back in the years following, he is still a damned sight better than Bradley, Eriksson, Maradona or any other of the daft names mentioned. They won't get higher than 7th this season though.

This now means his first home game is against us. 5-1 repeat anyone?

On the contrary I feel more positive now he's the manager.

Be nice to take at least a point and start him on the back foot like we did that grave digging wanker Grant.

We spoilt Keegan's 'homecoming' and he came in on a whirlwind on good feeling and positivity.

I fancy us to get a point at Villa far more now than I would have done had they still been managed by O'Neil.

He will officially be in charge against us in his first game because of some contract bollocks or something, I cant help but think he does not want to get off to a shíte start as Stoke is a very difficult place to travel AND SEES US ATVILLA PARK AN EASIER PROPOSITION.
