So what happens when we sell Taylor?.........No back up for Petrov, ok we have gardner but he isn't exactly a prolific goalscorer (well certainly not up to Matty Taylors standard).
Unless Coyle is willing to invest in some real quality by selling Taylor then we have to keep him for the sheer fact he is our best scoring midfielder.

He'll score just as many as Gardner if they're both sat on the bench! If Coyle isn't going to start him, which is the correct call in my opinion, and we can get decent money for him, we should sell.

100% should sell Taylor! Im not gonna get into the argument whether he's good or not.
At the end of the day:
1) For whatever reason he's not part of OC's 1st team plans. 2) We have 4 other players that can play LW they are Petrov, Gardner, Alonso and Ward. 3) Possibly the most important reason because of the first two; Coyle still wants to strengthen the squad but has no money for transfers or wages- So selling Taylor for £3-5 mil and getting £40k off the wage budget is like winning the lottery for OC.
For these reasons alone if we get the right offer selling Taylor is a NO BRAINER.

Doesn't fill me with much confidence.

This just doesn't make any sense to me. West Ham are shopping in the same market we are. If they can't find a better way to spend 4 million than Taylor, why do you think we'd be able to get a replacement who is better than him?

Petrov will miss games, Gardener for the large part has been crap for the last 18 months, Alonso is a left back with little experience, Wards going out on loan. Matty Taylor has been one of our best goal scorers even though last season he played with glandular fever, we couldn't get anywhere near that kind of goal threat/potential for the 2.5 - 3m max we would get. how the hell is that a no brainer

You won't win mate. Once you fall victim of the Bolton boo-boys there's no going back.

He shouldn't go unless they offer silly money ie £5m or more. We need him more than most of you think.

We don't need to replace Taylor as we have Petrov who is the regular starter on the left now. But I think Gardner would do a better job that Taylor too. Cash in on him and put the money towards a new striker.

Taylor has been an important source of goals and assists over last couple of seasons. Its OK letting him go but only if the other midfielders pick up the slack

No we don't. We have Holden to take set-pieces, and Gardner as a pacy back-up to Petrov. £5m? I'll start the car.

£5m yes, given they're rating him at £2m no chance. Scores too many goals to be flogging him to a bottom-half rival for £2m. Abroad for £2m, I'd consider it, Premier league no chance...

Petrov, Gardner, Alonso and Ward for the left - if we flog fat Matt we can get £5m and £40,000 per week off the books, frees up £7m for spending. Makes sense.

I can't work out where he'd fit into the West Ham team anyway! Hitzlsperger and Diamanti are surely way ahead of him?

I thought they'd sold that Diamanti character, and isn't he a forward anyway? Sell him to whoever stumps up the fee, regardless of if they're a direct rival or not.

Not really, because we'd be losing someone who is NOW a bit-part player, and we'd gain £7m to spend on the team (presuming we got £5m ish for Taylor).

First of all I don't think we would get anywhere near the £5million figures that are being banded around I think it will be more like £3million. However, assuming £5m is what we would get, I still don't agree with selling him and here's why;
1) If we sell him and Petrov gets injured (which WILL happen) we have no cover. Let's face it Gardner isn't good enough to rely on week in week out as he's too inconsistent and brings no goal threat and no final ball. A few people have suggested Alonso but we haven't even seen this Alonso lad at competitive level (also, isn't he a left back???)
2) He scores goals ffs and seen as we have two strikers who won't get 15 goals between them this season, we need all the goals we can get.
3) GUARANTEED! He will score against us when we play West Ham
4) Can we replace him with a player of his ability for the same money? No!

If you also take into account we are paying him around 2M p/a to sit on the bench- and step in if someone else is injured, then 2-3m starts to look like a good offer.
Has he got another contract in him? Probably not.
Which means next year he'll be on the final year of his contract.
Sell him for 2M now, get out of paying him 4M in wages over the next two years.
Is it really all that bad? Seems like a half decent offer to me for a player who is only going to be getting games if someone else is injured.
Alonso, Gardner and Ward seems adequate enough back-up.

I can't believe people wanting Taylor to stay. He is a bit part player now on big wages. He isn't any good when he comes on the field anyway. We should definitely cash in on him and use the money elsewhere on the team - i.e. a striker. We have enough midfielders in Petrov, Gardner, Chung Yung Lee, Muamba, Holden, Mark Davies and Sean Davis. Sell Taylor and put the money with the £1m from Basham and sign a striker that we so desperately need.
