Thanks again Marado.
Don't know about the eagles - should be called the mighty ducks after playing in those conditions.
Two things struck me - in England the match would have been called off - the ball was 'sticking' in the middle of the pitch - and English refs would have given a penalty for end ball right at the end.
I don't know when things changed -it used only be handball when the 'arm' went to the ball and not visa-versa. Now if your arm is above shoulder hight and the ball hits you at a 100mph from two inches away they give a penalty!!!
For what its worth I think your refs got it right not giving a hand ball and if the ball 'sticking' was only on the halfway line and not the penalty area then they were probably right not abandoning it too!
GO EAGLES!!!
Manny you are right about the Zenit game - well remembered.

Not really, I'm living in Madeira Island (where CR7 was born), but i usually go to Oporto City 5 - 6 times a year and to Lisbon only 3 or 4 and mostly during the week, everytime i go to Lisbon Benfica are playing away !! So haven't had lots of luck! The last game i saw was Benfica-Napoli for the UEFA in October. The Stadium was packed with 60K supporters, the stadium goes crazy! They always want Benfica to loose!! SOB Portuguese soccer in worse than the Calcio Scandal... They have to fix this crap! Year after year it gets worse. Refery payouts, Federation Staff payouts, League Staff payouts...just name it! So much corruption from some clubs in the north, mainly FC Porto and there President. FC Porto shouldn't even had been permited to play in the Champions League, but somehow they were allowed... Take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apito_Dourado

Wow!! Didn't know anything about this - it stinks!!! We do have a few dodgy decisions over here but I think they are honest mistakes and not systematic cheating like this. There have been allegations about organised betting based in the far east (Malasia and places like that) on things like the time of the first throw in, or corner or stuff like that - but nothing as bad as this! It must be terrible for true football fans in Portugal.

Doubt the larsson deal is on the cards with Megson saying he has put in two bids but maybe the Veloso deal is on again, if the article is right and we have offered £3m (possibly funded by Nolan sale) then he might be trying to bluff the other clubs by saying we have pulled out, I know Newcastle and City want him.
I would leave the deal though personally, I think we have bigger issues! The midfield played well today with Mark Davies impressing in the middle, I would be lookin for a striker or a left back!

I don't know.
Rumours are that Davies will be gone by the deadline.
My guess is that Santa Cruz will go to City - will Davies then join Sam?
(or if Cruz does not go - maybe SKD then - to give City a big target guy until the end of the season. I've even heard that Megson said there was a possible player exchange - with a player he did not want to go - Kev to City and one of theirs to us?)
Who knows!

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson could bring in up to four new players before Monday's transfer deadline.
Megson has been active in adding to his squad during January after signing Sebastien Puygrenier, Ariza Makukula and Mark Davies. Sky Sports News understands Bolton Wanderers have made a bid for Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis.
Bolton boss Gary Megson is looking to increase his midfield options after selling captain Kevin Nolan to Newcastle United.
A big-money deal for Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso has been called off, but Megson could have success in landing Davis.

SSN saying Veloso is staying with Sporting. We've got to move on quickly if we want to bring anybody in.

Interesting to see the first atricle posted by Marado, looks like we offered around 11million euros so do not know how much they were holding out for!

15 million Euros according to Setanta I'd like to say a big thank you to Marado for keeping us informed of all the happenings over in Portugal in respect of our transfer targets. Marado's gone to a great deal of time and trouble to keep us up to date and posting summaries and links for us in respect of our team - who he doesn't even support (I hope he adopts us now though!). Not many folk would have done that - and I for one appreciate what he has done. Thank you fella! (PS – I’m not that bothered that we failed to get Veloso based on Marado’s opinion – maybe Megson’s been reading this thread!).

Going off reports either side of the pond, you can't really tell how much we offered.
I know the Euro doesn't have the same conversion rate compared to the pound any more, but €11m is less than £12m, which is what was reported to be turned down over here.
I guess we move on and see what the rest of the season brings.

Exactly! we have what we have and that is not too bad. Only problem for me is the LB situation and lack of depth up front but otherwise we are looking good.

Left back is fine for me. Samuel has been surprisingly one of the more consistent players in the side this season.
Gardner can also play there if needed and Taylor can also do it at a stretch, he used to play there for Portsmouth. But after saying that, he played left back at Villa last season and we got trumped 4-0!

I must say i find myself enjoying this forum alot, I consider myself lucky in finding a good forum, with good people to swap a good chat regarding football!! I say again! You guys were lucky in not landing Miguel Veloso! The money is better spent in grown players that know the premier league to help your team fight for a higher position in the league standings. I will keep coming here in a regular basis to talk about how Big Mak is doing and to talk about football and anything else I see fight to participate in other topics. Best Regards, Sincerely Marado eeh
