to be fair i think we only need someone to bang in some goals it only looks bad because we played the top 5 teams over the last like 6 games if we had a proven goal scorer we may have gained a few points plus we have been very unlucky with people being suspended and injured at the same time, but your right you need to see players with a Bolton shirt on to be sure.

if we do need anyone is it for backup or for the first team?

We are desperately crying out for a creative midfielder, but the good ones come at a price.

Obviously, somebody who can score the goals, but we've now got Elmander, Smolarek, Davies and Makukula, aswell as Obadeyi so I can't see us getting anybody else in.

Megson said before the window that we need players, but there's no point in getting people in just for the fun of it.

the trouble is we've had some very good midfielders over the last 6/7 years long gone are the days of jj, youri an the like but as you said it costs money for good players but sam never broke the bank an those were very good players.

as for having all the forwards look at how many goals they have scored thats the only bad thing i can say about our situation i for one would like to have a proven scorer up front with elmander as much as i love big kev he don't score enough goals

I wrote that up before, but I think we could be jumping to conclusions.

Leicester also want him and he's already on loan there. But then again, would he hand in a transfer request if a Premier League club hadn't come in for him.

Hmmmm...

Would be happy with Davies but unless Megson thinks he's ready for the premier league now then i still think we need another midfielder otherwise we'll continue to struggle creating chances.

Linked to the masked man Zoro now!

Quote
Bolton have stepped up their interest in Benfica's Mark Zoro following a trial period at Blackburn.

Rovers' manager Sam Allardyce was keen to sign the Ivory Coast international after he impressed during his short time at Ewood Park but the two clubs have failed to agree a fee.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11672_4848215,00.html

This is him without his mask - doesn't he look so different!?

Been subject to racist abuse in Italy before - fans can really be pathetic sometimes.

Zoro suffers more racist abuse

Quote
Messina's Ivorian defender Marc Zoro was reduced to tears on Sunday, after being subjected to racial abuse by the visiting fans of Inter Milan, in the Italian Serie A.

The 21-year-old was targetted when he went to collect the ball near the away supporters' section and after a chorus of monkey chants he decided he would take no more part in the game.

Never really seen the guy play before but it looks as though we're not the only club after him.

Another defender though?! I see Shittu going before the end of the window.

Another Link about Zoro to Bolton.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/747/bolton/2009/01/25/1077477/bolton-wanderers-enter-race-for-mark-zoro

Megson is in Luv with Benfica players ehehe
I have no idea why he doesn't play in my club Benfica, it must be cause we have better central defenders, we have Luisão (normally plays in the Brazilian National Team), David Luiz and Sidnei (two of the best U23 Brazilian Defenders at the moment) and we have a home-grown U21 named Miguel Vitor, so there is no place for Zoro in our squad... We got him on a free transfer and he just played like 2 matches in 2 seasons and has a 100K€ monthly salary. He can play has right fullback but is better has central defender.

Name: Marc Andre Zoro Kpolo
Nationality: Ivory Coast Ivory Coast
Born: 1983-12-27 (25 years)
City of Birth: Abidjan - Ivory Coast Ivory Coast
Position: Right Fullback, Central Defender
Height: 182 cm
Weight:75 kg

Thanks Marado

I guess the thinking could be - Shittu and Hunt out with Zoro in.

I assume with Zoro playing only two matches in two seasons we are only looking at him as back up for now.

100,000 Euros per month is about £25,000 per week these days - so we would probably make a big savings on wages if we get him and Shittu and Hunt leave.

Are these two players transfer listed ? Shittu and Nicky Hunt?

Do you guys need a central midfielder, we have another player you can get from us. He is called Bynia he plays for the cameroon national team also.

We've got a few central midfielders, but we need an ATTACKING one!

Hunt and Shittu aren't transfer listed but I guess if we get a decent offer for either then we would probably accept it.

No they are not listed but they are both out of favour.

Shittu was bought for £2 million at the start of the season - our centre backs have been Cahill who is a very good young player and Andy O'Brien - who was probably our player of the year last season (but we did have a very bad season!)

Shittu was probably hoping to take O'Briens place but in an early cup game in which he played he really performed badly and did not really feature again until recently when we had players out.  Shittu had two outstanding games but was dropped for the Manchester United game when the regular pair played and did not even come on as sub - the new French player who we only got the other day - Sebastien Puygrenier - came on instead.

Clearly Shittu felt that he was probably fourth choice and had a bit of a moan

see here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1125051/Shittu-ready-admitted-wishes-hadnt-joined-Bolton.html?ITO=1490

I do feel sorry for him but it does seem that he is not wanted.

Nicky Hunt as been our regular right back for a few years until last January when we got Gretar Steinsson and Hunt has hardly played for Bolton since.  Earlier in the season he went out on loan to Birmingham (who are in the league below us).  He didn't really do anything special there.

Hunt is in fact a Bolton born player - he's ok in my opinion - but most of our fans don't rate him.

He signed a new contract last season and I'm guessing that we are probably paying about £25,000 per week each to them.

We don't really have cover at right back - so Hunt being loaned out to Birmingham sort of signalled that he was not wanted any more at Bolton.

So a want away centre back and a not wanted right back for a centre back who can play right back makes sense to me.

Although I may well be wrong!

Gary Megson is supposed to be at Benfica tomorrow so you might as well pop down and tell him all about Zoro and Bynia.

Thanks for the info Sluffy!! Well i hope you guys can lower the salary budget that way, Zoro is probably a better "defender" than those two, because he played all of his career in the country of tactical football "italy".

I came to his topic this morning cause Bolton makes a little corner piece in one of the daily sport journal called "A Bola".

http://74.125.77.100/translate_c?hl=en&sl=pt&tl=en&u=http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx%3Fid%3D157052&prev=_t&usg=ALkJrhh7noRO-DMBU9vONpKyQhS9l8UyUg

In one piece it is about Marc Zoro that we already discussed yesterday and the other is that Gary Megson is here (in Lisbon) to try and buy Miguel Veloso for 12,5M€, but i must say, it will never happen, he will only leave for 20M€ or if the economy stabilizes the price goes up to 25M€-30M€ (contract transfer clause, i can't remember know which one it is 25 or 30, but no matter), i just want to say, even dough he is from Sporting Lisbon, our major rival in the Capital, he is not worth that money, cause he is totality overrated, he is a player that came out of the Sporting Academy (one of the best in the world, two Fifa Best Players of the year awards in the last 10 years with players that came out of this academy - Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo), he has been linked with Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, some Italian and Spanish top clubs  also in the last years, but never left, had a terrific/awesome first season in the main squad in 2006 and hasnt been able to be consistent in the last seasons, just is not hasa good, has played has left fullback (very very few occasions) and also has Defensive midfielder (main position), but has grown slow and kinda chubby, a player in that position must have good pace (he lost it), must have good resistance (he lost it), but he has a awesome free-kick i must say, very good left foot, good vision, maybe he really needs to leave the club to boost back his career. But like i said, he won't go to your club, I'm not seeing that happen.

Thanks Marado - some fantastic information on Veloso.

We in Bolton do not believe the story that we are trying for Veloso either - we think it is just newspaper speculation.  We do not really need more defensive midfield players, we cannot afford the transfer fee, we need other positions (attacking midfield) to be urgently strengthened, and he is linked to much bigger clubs than we are.

But after saying all of that if Megson is really in Lisbon I would think he is there to speak to some player personally to try to get them to sign for Bolton - maybe it is just for Zoro or maybe he is there for someone else too - who knows?

We will find out soon enough!

Maybe they really are after him!!!

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that they have made a bid for the highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

Veloso, a 22-year-old defensive midfielder who has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United, said recently that he would be happy to stay at Sporting but the Portuguese club may be persuaded by a bid in the region of £12m-£13m.

Neither can I.

Doesn't really make any sense - even if we did get him, why do we need another defensive midfield (left sideish at that).  Who would make way for him?

If you assume Elmander and Davies as strikers (with Big Mak as cover) and the normal back four (plus the Russian to replace O'Brien I guess) and Jussi - it would leave Veloso playing along side three out of Taylor, Muamba, Nolan, McCann and Ricky.

Not a thrilling prospect really!

He made the cover today of another sports newspaper "Ojogo"

News Link (i used google.translate.com to translate the text, but there are some minor mistakes has always in the translation):
http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ojogo.pt%2F24-341%2FArtigo776549.asp&sl=pt&tl=en&history_state0=

The offer speculated by the media in Portugal is:

Quote
Bolton offered 15 million EUR to purchase the pass of Veloso, with financial contributions to the future emblem of Alvalade, including a share - in principle about 20 to 25% - of the money for a future transfer (beyond the value to be received by the athlete's training, that the lions have also right).

I still think he won't be leaving.

Edit:

After creating this post, i did a quick search and found some more info about this possible transfer.

Latest News about Veloso:

Gary Megson: "We talked with Sporting for Veloso"
BOLTON'S MANAGER WANTS PORTUGUESE MIDFIELDER.

Quote
Gary Megson, the Bolton manager, made this morning that the club that is interested in guiding medium unfair Miguel Veloso, and has begun negotiations with Sporting.

"It is something we are trying, but then becoming a reality is something else.  It is complicated to talk about a player from another team, but he has great quality and, if we succeed, we will bring him to join us. Moreover, we are interested in the boy, but certainly there are others watching over him". revealed Megson.

”Then it was time to ensure that the business is in motion: "We talked with them [Sporting], but for now is just that."

Edit:

I talked to a person who works at Sporting and he told me that the talk behind the curtains is that: "he signed a two year deal yesterday."

I must say that I am reluctant in believing. But you never know!

I really can't see us pulling this one off, but heres hoping!

Two year deal with Bolton.

Well Megson was saying in the press conference that Eddie Davies always backs them up, when they see a promising player, so I'm starting to think that you guys could truly land this players for your club. Sporting is in need of the money also, they are a top club, but have low revenue, they normally need to sell players at the end of the season to balance there accounts. They have a promising youngster called Adrien in the main squad also, so he can substitute Veloso with no problem and they summon another youth player from the Puma Academy (Sporting's cademy name). But i must say, with that money, you can get a much better player than Veloso.

Latest News about Veloso @ goal.com
Veloso Agent: Outcome Is Imminent As Manchester City And Bolton Interest Increases
http://www.goal.com/en/news/747/bolton/2009/01/27/1080182/breaking-news-veloso-agent-claims-manchester-city-interest

You should tell Megson to watch Ibson he currently plays for Flamengo on loan from FC Porto, he is an awesome midfielder, has been on loan for the past two years cause Porto have Lucho Gonzalez (argentian national midfielder) first choice for that position. But what a player, he is in the Top3 of the best midfielders playing in the Brazilian league and would be like 1/3 of the price or maybe less and is 10x better than Veloso.

Ibson @ Flamengo - Profile

Porstmouth signed a loan deal with Pelé U21 Portuguese FC Porto midfielder with a 6,5M€ option to buy clause, that will most probably be activated by Tony Adams at the end of the loan deal. He is better than Veloso in my opinion, he is like a Patrick Vieira in the making, just needs confidence and more games. YOU SHOULD OF GOT THIS PLAYER !!!

Another midfielder that is out to impress in 2009 is Anthony Annan - Rosenborg BK - Norwegian Tippeligaen

Profile: http://www.rbk.no/english/article87106.ece
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OBCW_yM4CI

One of the stars of the African Cup of Nations back in January 2008, in the absence of Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, Annan is yet to seal his big move despite a host of clubs showing an interest in him. The 22-year-old central midfielder has been compared with Argentine playmaker Pablo Aimar, but is also a great ball-winner and makes up for his lack of height with tremendous desire and impressive passing skills. Currently playing his trade in Norway, 2009 should hold a move for a player likely to impress further with his national side. I want Benfica to buy this players!! He is a star in the making!
