A friend and his wife asked after a week away on there own if my wife and i would like to join them in Blackpool.
Work was slow with most of my customers away on thier hols so i set off with the misses and joined them at thier hotel.
This is about 4 or 5 years ago.Now at this time Bolton was playing Portsmouth,so we as a group decide to find a pub showing the match.(At this point of time i am unaware of the death of the blackpool fan. Having found out about it on here, and not knowing as i dont read the media also for quite a few years been in self imposed excile of our beloved Wanderers).
We won the match but all through the game we were constantly being hit by boild sweets, peanuts and beer mats.
Never thrown as we tried to find out were they were coming from, i complained to the management but nothing was done about it.
The point is i was wearing my Bolton shirt and could not think why this was happening,my ignorance to the situation could have been harmful to the party i was with and myself .
Luckely nothing came of this instance and i think my self, wife and friends may be had a narrow escape.

Well I bring no substance to Biggles' experience (not discrediting it either) just to say it's quite simple. Approach Blackpool with caution. If you, as a Bolton Wanderers fan, read this and, as a result, end up hurt... well you were warned. And by the time the game comes at Bloomfield, (best part of 10 months away), there should be many more threads, articles and Police warnings telling you as much. Take the fcuking warning.

Anyone over the age of 12 wearing a replica top deserves more than beer mats thrown at them.

Grow up.

What experiences do you have over the years regarding Blackpool Natasha, if any?*

Sorry, I've read this post three times now and I think I'm missing the point.

Is this a warning not to go to Blackpool away with your Bolton shirt on?
Is it a warning to take boiled sweets into a pub as ammo?
Is it a recommendation to go to Bolton matches when your business isn't busy?

Anyone care to shed some light?

I'm totally lost on this one.  Can someone tell me what happened to the Blackpool fan?  Did one of our lot kill one of theirs?

I most scertainly am grown up (past the 50 mark) the point i was trying to make is that at the time i did not know of the death of this young fan.
If i had  known i would not have worn Bolton colours, the story of the Blackpool fan made me realisethe probable cause of the way we were treated, to that end i think we got off lightly.

You're over 50 and you've never heard about the Blackpool fan getting stabbed?

Chris - last time I was in Blackpool for a game I had a drink with a couple of Blackpool fans who said they didn't have a 'firm'.  Are you just worried about general aggression or did I miss something?

Do they not?

Oh and they still are going on about the stabbing - this from just last year -

Never forgotten - Pool honour murdered fan
Published on Fri Aug 28 20:17:06 BST 2009

A PLAQUE, unveiled for a tragic Blackpool FC fan bears the message "Never forget".

Kevin Olsson was just 18 when he was stabbed on the terraces during a game between Blackpool and Bolton 35 years ago.

His family, including brother Geoff, who lives in the resort, were devastated when Kevin died from his injuries. No-one was ever brought to justice for the crime.

A plaque has been unveiled outside the ticket office at Bloomfield Road, by Geoff, Blackpool FC president Valery Belokon, club secretary Matt Williams, and fans Mick Page and Frank Knight, who raised the money for the memorial.

Mr Olsson, 48, said: "I am very pleased this memorial is so central. It will mean that Kevin is never forgotten.

"It will be seen by fans going to the game, and remind them of the tragic consequences of football violence.

"I am extremely grateful to Mick, Frank, and the club for raising the money and allowing us to have a permanent memorial here."

The money for the plaque was raised by Blackpool supporters and it was and made by Layton-based Wray Brothers Memorial, bears the message – In memory of Kevin Olsson, 1956-1974. R.I.P. Never Forget.

Matt Williams, club secretary, said: "This is the first real honouring of Kevin here at the club.

"It is a fitting time to unveil this. It is the 35th anniversary of Kevin's death, and a week in which terrible scenes at West Ham reminded people that violence is unacceptable."

Mr Page, 53, who knew Kevin when he was a teenager, held a charity auction at the club in July to raise 180 towards the memorial, along with fan Mr Knight, 61.

Mr Page said: "I wasn't at the game that day, but I remember thinking, that could have been anybody.

"It was tragic that Kevin died, and as time has dragged on, I kept thinking that something needed to be done, and here is the result."

There is also a an engraved brick outside Blackpool FC's shop, dedicated to Kevin.

The FA has launched an investigation into scenes of violence at West Ham's Upton Park, after fans invaded the pitch three times at the Carling Cup match on Tuesday.

Violence also erupted between opposing fans on the streets around the stadium, which has been condemned as "deplorable" by the FA.

Unfortunately you are probably right, I can remember that day so undoubtedly a lot of Blackpool fans will as well, and just as our history is passed down in folklore so will Blackpools and I bet that incident takes prime place,  so it would be no surprise at all if there was trouble when we go there.

Sluffy - from your source "For much of the 1990s there was no real organised hooligan firm. [17]"

The firm you posted about apparently started in 2005.  Hence why I asked if I missed something.

I informed you there is.

Am I missing something - unless it was 10 years or so ago since you asked your Blackpool friends?

"The last time I was in Blackpool for a game"......was a long time ago, but not 10 years.  Maybe 7.  That's why I asked Chris what had changed.  If it was last season I wouldn't have bothered.

Oh sorry, I thought you were sharing recent information about Blackpool 'firm's' - something that would be relevant to this season's encounters - not something seven years out of date!

My mistake.
