This will be the last time I post anything of substance seeing as you wankers have moved it to the gayers section.

Hogson isn't going to impress Liverpool fans going for players like Luke Young.

I agree with you about the Salary Cap Natasha. However if them reports are true about Klas' wage; then we have got a good deal I think. Allot of premier league strikers command wages of £30K upwards, so a good deal in my opinion if the reports are true.

I agree with most of that (excepting your assessment of Klasnic).. if there was ever a league which needed a salary cap, its the premier league. Clubs are teetering on the brink of administration yet they are forced to come up with £50k/w for the likes of a Luke Young. Sad times.
We were discussing the merits of riding the bench in another thread too, it seems this is an issue which simply won't go away. I think you're right Natasha, its now a common trait of the modern footballer and it's not going away until some regulation comes in.

I appear to have got lost and stumbled upon the football section. As I'm here here's my take. I have no idea what he gets paid but let's say it's £50k per week. Read that sentence again. £50k per week for being average.
You can't just pluck a figure from the air and then sensationalise it. Anyway. Luke Young is a 31 year old footballer with a 3 year contract worth 37k a week. For a club the size of Villa I wouldn't say this is excessive in comparison with his colleagues. So, is he overpaid? If you compare him with a nurse then yes, vastly, but compare him with other Aston Villa footballers probably not. Nicky Hunt was rumored to be on 30k a week remember. With being 31 how long do you think he has left being a footballer? 3, 4, 5 years at the very very most? I should imagine at 31 he has some sort of family he needs to provide for. If this is the case throwing 1.5M away so he can kick a ball about once a week (which is in no way guaranteed) is madness. Lastly, put yourself in his shoes. Your boss comes to you and says "Hi, good news. We're relocating you to a branch down the road, you'll be doing the same job but we're going to drop your wage by 25%. Is that ok?". What would you say?

My heart bleeds and all that, Barry ...... ok, it doesn't, but consider : How much has this player earned over the last 10 years or so ? Enough to keep most of us in caviar and porsches for the rest of our lives, so a short playing career isn't that relevant. In any case he could get an actual job of work to make ends meet once he hangs up his boots; his life won't be over. If he's on £2m a year, and Villa have about 20 players averaging that sort of money, can Villa actually afford a player-only wage bill of £40m a year along with all their other costs ? Can other clubs actually afford the wages they all pay ? Granted moving for less money seems less attractive on the face of it. But then he's a footballer earning millions, on a short football career (as you say), so why not maximise his playing time at the top instead of maximising the money ? There are different ways of looking at this kind of situation.

Because to him its a job, in fact its a belting job. Couple of hours work a day mon-fri then watch a premier league game at the weekend. Theres only King at Spurs with a better job as he doesn't even have to do the mon-fri stuff but gets paid more. People go to work to earn money, enjoying your job is just a bonus. British Gas have just reported record profits but I can't see them saying "look we've just made 500M but really we could still get by comfortably if we made 10M so lets reduce costs to the public by 80%, everyones a winner". Its what makes the world go round unfortunately.

In my opinion Luke Young is NOT the typical greedy footballer in this case. Yes he's 2nd choice at Villa, but he's bound to be 2nd choice at Liverpool behind Glen Johnson.
See it this way. Would you rather sit on a bench at Villa where you're: a) More likely to get a game b) On a better contract c) Settled in your home
Or move to Liverpool where you're: a) Less likely to get a game b) Paid less c) Have to move your family around, change their school, search for a home etc d) Villa to Liverpool is hardly a step up these days anyway
I know which I would choose, I don't blame him for not going anywhere!
