He could try soaking his laptop in a bowl of soapy water. That should help.

that only works when the power supply is plugged in, if theres a bang and a few sparks, then it means that it was successful

On the topic of laptops and computers and things, does anyone own a Mac? They look 'aesthetically pleasing' to me, however in my job I use a lot of Microsoft based programs, so I don't know whether it's worth getting one. Are Excel, SQL etc any different on Macs than they are on a PC?

I hate macs.  Overpriced products made specifically for hipsters who enjoy paying ridiculous amounts of money for a name.  That said, individual apps shouldn't really be any different across platforms.  If you are talking network configurations and such there will be some differences, mostly minor.  But just for using say Excel it should handle basically the same.

I pretty much echo what pfk said. I don't hate them, I like them, but I think they're way over priced. I got a new Windows computer at the start of June and paid £600. If I wanted the exact same spec but with a Mac, I'd have paid around £1500!

They're good but it's better to stick with what you know and save the money, especially if the main software would be things like Office. Macs are good for sound engineers and video editors but no better than Windows for your everyday things.

I use one for design work and bloody love it. They are overpriced though.

I thought about making a seperate threa for this but they might aswell be laptops, what is the difference between a blackberry and a mobile phone, is it just a name or is their some real difference?

I have been thinking about getting one as a few at work have them but I have yet to get a real answer on what the difference is between the 2.

This seems to be the exception to the rule.  For years Macs have been lauded for graphics work, design, drafting and such.  I'm not sure exactly why because I'm not a designer, but I'll gladly heed to the expert opinion.

Another thing is the Iphone.  I think Apple has done a magnificent job making a slick looking phone for the non tech savvy user / your grandma.   My mom got one and loves it - its perfect for her.  It works out of the box, requires little or no maintenance and is very user friendly.  I'll give them credit where its due in that respect.

Sorry, "mum".  I'm still learning how to speak English.  This is funny because I always called my own mother "mum" as a child, yet it was worked out of me in school.

Like I said previously, they're great for the sound and video guys. They're also great for design and stuff that I use in the web development industry. The main reason is a lot of these software packages are heavy going on the graphics and the memory and Macs can handle it, while Windows can't.

Funny?
Hilarious, I'd say.

There is no deal, as you put it.

I have had a bit more time on my hands recently, that's all.

WL's very quiet, if I'm honest.
Although that doesn't concern me. We expected it to be quiet during the off-season, as the majority of our members don't really go in for all the transfer rumouring that fills most others forums up.

It'll get busier as the season starts, I'd expect. But if it doesn't: that's life.
