I am suprised that he has said no to them to be honest as I thought the deal was all sewn up.

But he probably realises that Hodgson took them as far as they could go and knows he would have a real challenge in taking them on to the next level.

Thought I would post this due to them being our opening game of the season.

He is very frustrated at Ajax as the club have no money to buy players and he probably looks at Fulham the same way.
I was too still suprised he snubbed the move, I'll give him one more year in Holland before he takes off.

Excellent. Fulham are an overrated team, just as Hodgson is an overrated manager. Jol is above them. Plus, Fulham are about our level so the more things which fcúk up their pre-season the better.

A fair point, thought I also think Grant is an overrated manager. He's certainly a step up from Zola though.  They have bought well so far and have certainly improved the team.

Anyone know who the seconf favourite for the Fulham job is? I know Curbs has fallen out with half the team so he's unlikely. Hughes?

I heard he was strongly linked, along with Sven.

BBC reporting differently -

Martin Jol has told Ajax he wants to become Fulham boss but the Dutch club are refusing to discuss a compensation package, BBC Sport understands.

Jol is said to be "excited" about joining the Premier League side and has informed them of his intention to sign.

How come they are linked with good managers e.g. Jol and Sven but for some reason when we were after a new manager with a similar budget we got linked fcuking tripe like Dowie and Phil Brown.

We don't have a similar budget  for one and we're not a London team for two (and we got Owen Coyle for three).

I know they have the owner of Harrads as their chairman but they always seem to be linked with similar players to us and they don't go spending 10mill on just one player very often either.

Neither do we. We've done it twice! They bought Andy Johnson though when we bought Anelka. They also bought Steve Marlet for a huge amount when Al Fayed wanted them to be the Man Utd of the South.

That was my point, neither of us spend millions on players and near enough always finish in a similar league position.

But they have spent more than us over the past few years. Much much more! And they're a London club which is why they're linked with 'better' managers although, prior to appointing C|oyle, we were also linked with Hughes.

It seems a bit of a dud thread then this if nothing is sorted either way. One's saying it will happen, the other's saying it won't, but neither outcome is yet ruled out. I do understand why Fulham are linked with higher calibre managers than us though. Granted we are both similar in league standings, but Fulham have always had that financial clout behind them ever since they came up with us, and managers like Jol would always choose cosmopolitan West London Fulham over gritty northern boys Bolton.

I am glad he has fucked them off because he is a really good and underrated manager and his appointment would have had me worrying that we might not beat Fulham.  He might be frustrated at Ajax but moving from Ajax to Fulham is certainly a massive stepback because even though they dont do much these days, I still think of Ajax as one of the major names in european football.

Weren't the Tottingham team fatter than the bloke behind the counter at the Olympus when he left there? I'm sure I read something along the lines of them being on a pie and mash diet.

I doubt when you add it all up (and not the imaginary figures that get reported) the real spending on wages, fees etc minus the money you receive that Fulham will have spent significantly more or less than we have.

There is one difference.

Its called London.

I'm not to sure on the correct figure, but it happens a lot that Bolton are the 1st team to play a team with a new manager.

Are they too proud to go for Megs? If survival is all they want, he could be their man (as per BWFC). People scoff @ mere survival but survival in the English Prem is no bad thing. Many fans will never see some of the worlds top teams playing @ their home ground, their only hope of seeing the best players is to get lucky in the FA Cup. But most fans want more than just getting by, it's difficult to know what's best.

I can honestly say that it has never crossed my mind that staying in the Premier League would be good as I get to see the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard with my own eyes.

Now the thread title is valid. Jol is going nowhere. Great news for us is this, I think it would have been a major boost for a team I consider our league rivals had they got Jol, and unless they get Hughes I don't think any of the candidates match up to him. The longer they go without a manager though, the more likely it is that we'll start the season with a win simply as we should be better prepared.
