My laptop is currently being rogered by a virus of e-biblical propotions.
I'm getting advice galore about the equivalent of cyber antibiotics, but am getting a lot of pop ups due to my infestation. Google 'side wiki' has appeared. I take it that's shíte, right?

I doubt it as I'm not a tight wad and thus have a firewall that even asks me for ID when I switch it on.

I think I will become ever so slightly cyber paranoid after this little incident. It's amazing how you take little things like internet banking for granted. I got directed to a dummy site on Saturday morning and the whole thing has gone tits up since then. I need to know if I am a BA's millionaire after the sweep!

I hope so. At least I can walk out of this with some dignity intact if it is. This cúnting laptop might not have such a happy fate if these pop ups don't desist though.

Sharps doesn't seem the religious type to me but seems to have developed a habit of calling the Catholics.

A couple of weeks back I was checking some old videos on a website, and I was just opening the links and I got a really annoying Virus, kept getting messages saying your computer is infected, can't open this, can't open that, couldn't even open internet to search for help.
Luckily I have the Internet on my iphone and PS3 so I checked some forums and websites for informations, turns out I had a av[anti virus 2009] virus, had to download malwarebytes software in safe mode and then go into normal mode and change the file name from MBAM.EXE to summat different so I could confuse the virus so it would let me run the software.
I tried everything, but it kept saying program infected etc, couldn't run the software at all, this fake virus kept opening IE and saying I had 37 viruses[critical]. I must have been sorting it for like 6 hours, kept having to go back and forth installing and un-installing the malware remover software, but it didn't work, I eventually thought I'll try and scan in safe mode and even though websites said it will not find the virus in safe mode, it did, it found 7 viruses with a quick scan and removed them, I was relieved when I went back to normal mode and everything was back to normal, did a full scan and nothing else was found.
I learned a lesson that night, the pricks who make these viruses want finding and locking up.
Malwarebytes.org sorted my problem out.

I did have MacAfee on my laptop but when they decided to charge me for it I tried to install AVG. I got a bit click happy and uninstalled MacAfee before realising that for some reason AVG wouldn't couldn't upload. My computer always throws a fit when it's trying to upload software.
I've also found the root cause of it. I received an email a few days ago that was untitled from a mate of mine. I don't open forwarded emails (just delete them). He never normally sends me stuff (and I am going away on a lads trip in a few weeks), so I opened it. I realised it was rubbish and deleted it (without clicking on the link on the email). Apparently it has knacked several computers (even with anti virus software)

so youre sorted then?
i had that a while back and its one of the most painful basterds in the world.
some versions of it stop you browsing altogether, it also disables you from execting installs so you can get a fix installed and it stops you editing the registry so you cant stop it from running etc.
if your sorted great, if you need any help if it comes back let me know.

you didnt actually buy it did you? its not even a proper antivirus software, it tells you you have loads of infections that yu really dont have, when infact the only infection you have got is their program. you need to get it off your sytem cos it is spying on you and stealing your details. also you need to get on to your bank and tell them it was a fraud and get them to refund you and also they can start tracking where the money went and catch whoever is behind it.

It did say I had to download the softwate, but even when it tried to open IE by itself it couldn't because because it said internet infected, I deleted it using malwarebytes in safe mode. But it took so much time and searching the net on my ps3 to find the correct help and also deleting the thing. which was hard work.

ps, howfen,
i never get viruses etc, im generally well protected - but at the time i was fiddling with my pc and doing some upgrades and updates, onto my screen flashed windows update and i clicked allow, only it wasnt. the next thing i knew everthing was screwed.
it was pretty clever though, it looked just the same as a real update and it looked pretty real like a real antivirus program too. as far as viruses go it was pretty clever and really good at stopping you getting rid of it.
