Anyone been? I'm looking at a lads trip away for my 40th in September.
Sort of fancy doing that restaraunt that is completely pitch black with blind servers.
Any suggestions/tips?

I've been several times, but I suspect what I think is a great place to go is not what a load of balding fatties in tracksuits would think.

Go to Thailand, right up you're street that, more brass to shake a stick at and cheap as chips which is right up you're street.

Bit of a trek for a weekend me thinks. I've been 'flashpacking' in Thailand a couple of times. It's hugely overrated. There's far more interesting destinations if you want to travel that far.

I've been 5 times Squidgy, it's my favourite city in Europe and somewhere I'd love to live one day. The touristy sights are an absolute must for someone who's never been before; Brandenburg Gate, Siegessaule, Checkpoint Charlie, Unter Den Linden, the Holocaust Memorial, even the Sony Centre is worth a look because its such an unusual building Basically Berlin is split into two sectors; West Berlin is all new and hi-tech and great for looking around during the daytime, but East Berlin is where you want to be when darkness falls and I could fill half a page with places you could visit there and I've still barely seen all I want to see there myself! As a rule of thumb, head up a street called Orianenburger Strasse (its in the middle of the red light district and i tell you something, the girls look a lot more inviting than they do on Shiffnall!) and this is where you'll find a lot of really cool bars, especially in September as a lot of them will still have chairs and tables outside so its a better atmosphere - there's a bombed out old artists commune on that street called Tacheles - I urge you to check it out! Last time I was there the top floor had a bar with a huge hole in the wall projecting videos onto the building across the street as the DJ's who presumably live there did their stuff - superb! Oh, and even though they've just been relegated, try and watch a Hertha Berlin game at the Olympiastadion, atmosphere is immense even when they've only got 16,000 in a 75,000 all seater! Sorry to ramble, if you need any more info ill see what I can do!

Even though a certain person has tarnished the good name of Amsterdam I still think it's better than Berlin. Especially for a 40th birthday away with the lads. I do agree Berlin is a good place to go though.

Top man. What's the best way to get from the satelite airport (Schoenfield or whatever it's called)? We are going to be near a subway station, so not sure if it's best to coach it in and cab it or subway it from the centre. I'm guessing they do weekend or tourist passes for the subway too?

I’m pretty sure I got a taxi to/from Schoenfeld Airport to the centre but it was some time ago when I last had to use that airport Ive usually come in by train from another city or had to come through Tegel Airport – so there may be a bus or train service there now.
The subway and local trains, (U-Bahn or S-Bahn) come in really handy when you’re there, although its good to walk all over the place and see everything at first, you’ll end up on and off the subway all the time to get to different areas it gets knackering, they run to the exact second as advertised too. You can get all day tickets for them from the machines at all the stations, I think they were about 4 euros last time I used them but that was 2008 so its probably more now – but make sure you get them and validate them before you get on a train otherwise the transport police come after you like a scene from Firefox

If Squidgy is feeling brave he could go buy some leather shorts and go to the KitKat Club swingers night in Kreuzburg but check out which night to go because it is a gay venue mostly.
Oddly enough I was reading about that very venue yesterday The Telegraph did a list of ten odd/funky things to do in Berlin. Still fancy that pitch black restaurant though.

Got back after 6 days (3 days with the lads and 3 with the spud) on Thursday and it gets the Squidgy 5* thumbs up as a weekend away destination. If you ever get a chance to go to one of those 'dark' restaurants with the blind servers try it. Awesome experience (a bit pricey though). http://www.unsicht-bar-berlin.de/unsicht-bar-berlin-v2/en/html/home_2_experience.html(gotta love how they show a picture of what fcúk all looks like)
