No, this isn't a thread about promiscuous guys from the cottaging scene. I have noticed a few people posting on the transfer rumours thread regarding players at the World Cup so I thought I'd start a thread about players who have caught the eye during the tournament. There may already be one but I couldn't see it so I'm doing this one I'll kick this one off with Oguchi Onyewu for the USA. I liked him during his short loan in the Prem a while back and he's looking like a very solid and commanding defender for the US in the first two games (currently playing now). I will now add Birsa for the goal he just scored vs the USA........wow!

I'll repeat Haruna Lukman of Nigeria who plays as a Defensive midfielder for AS Monaco. Looks comfortable on the ball and will only get better, plus he's all of 19! There's a winger on the South Korean team who wears #17, I forget his name...

The no.17 that caught my eye was Giovanni Dos Santos in the last game for Mexico. He's not been at his best, but he's been heavily involved and looked pretty dangerous. Spurs have made him available for transfer and he's only 21.

He's the kind of player I like too... give him free rein in midfield and he will make things happen. Only problem is that he might be too lightweight for the prem, but if he can get in the opposing penalty area before getting thumped we just need a PK taker.

Wright-Phillips and Ashley Young both manage in the Prem. SWP is tiny and still plays his game and Young was weak as a kitten but learned to use his body effectively (no jokes please gentlemen). I think talent is the most important thing.

I agree about Dos Santos looks very lively at international level, should enquire about loaning him next season.

He looked an exceptional prospect at Barca. Henry called him a 'genius' and said he'd be one of the best players on the planet when he was older. The problem is that he's not had enough football. To be honest I wouldn't see us going for him as at all unrealistic.

I always thougt Gevoani was shíte when he came on for barca, and it didnt surprise me that he dont play much for Tottenham. But after watching him play two games for Mexico, i wonder why Tottenham have not giving him some more time on the field. He is one who has impressed me much.
In an hope of seeing Holden play, i watched the second half between Slovenia and USA. Holden didnt come on, but there was one player who impressed me, that was Jozy Altidore. He never really impressed me playing for Hull, but he looked strong and has a lot of pace and battles hard for everything

Because we have played with Davies for years, and have kicked long balls at him since he arrived. As he is getting old, dont you think we need a replacement?

I like two Japanese players - Marcus Tulio & Matsui. Many clubs are apparently taking close notice of the Japanese striker Honda, but the others would be good additions to Bolton, I think.

He looks a real talent does Kevin Prince Boateng, I dont think there is a hope in hell that he would come to us but he certainly has some ability.

I honestly think he would. He burnt a lot of bridges in Germany with some of his recent comments and if he doesn't move he'll be in the Championship next season.

Agreed, but I think we're sorted for the midfield if we get Wilshere on board. Centre back and up front are the big priorities

Given what has been said about Knight and Cahill, why is CD the priority position? Aside from for back-up, obviously.

Sorry I forgot we had this conversation and that Zat Knight and Cahill are a super combination. In my opinion we still need another first-choice centre half but while you pointed out that Coyle isn't looking for one I guess we won't talk about it anymore....

Well that wasn't what I meant. I meant given what Coyle has said why does it rate as a priority. It clearly isn't one for Coyle and thus it seems we will focus elsewhere.

I suppose we could always loan him for a season if pompey cannot afford his wages and he wants the Germany heat to die down but we would not be alone in requiring his services.

The Pompey administrator said there is no interest in him, which I found very odd. He hasn't been superb in the World Cup, just steady, so maybe he'll be available. However, there's no indication we have any interest in him.....which is a shame.
