What an absolute load of crap.
No excitement, no passion and very few goals.
If a professional footballer can't get himself motivated for a World Cup we should all pack up and forget about football forever. I thought it was just English players that didn't give a shite about the national team but clearly it's a worldwide epidemic.
I've said it a million times before, the players of today are fitter and stronger than they have ever been but actual football talent like passing and shooting is at an all-time low. And crossing? Don't get me started. It's as if every winger has been taking lessons from Chongy Lee.....every single one hits the first defender.
If I wanted boring football I would watch a DVD of Bolton over the past 5 years.
Shame on you football.

Why do you make things up to back your post?!? Did you not see Lahm's cross for Klose being an example to deny this? Argentina, Ghana and Germany have all impressed. There have been some negative games, but a lot of teams are being cautious in the 1st games not wanting to lose. Still have Brazil & Spain to come.

Only players to 'get me off my seat' methophorically speaking are; Elia, Ozil and to a lesser extent, the Korean attack and Tshabalala.
Apart from those, totally agree with Tash, tournement has been a shite borefest so far. Far to many athletes, far to few footballers. For all it's build up there have been plenty of empty seats, plenty of bland average games and then the vuvuzelas just round its shiteness off.

I thought Messi was average. Missed at least four easy chances- Emile Heskey gets torn apart for missing one.

I thought he should have scored 1 at least, but he had a lot of placement shots from the edge of the box, if it wasn't for the keeper I think he would have scored 3 or 4.

Most strikers would.

They were stunning saves Nat, Argentina were very good attack wise, but I think they could be troubled against better teams.
Ozil was great for Germany, very clever player, just let himself down with the dive that got him a yellow card and the one on one miss.
Elia came on and totally bamboozled the right back with tricks more than once and was unlucky not to score when he hit the post, he scored a fantastic solo goal in the warm up before World Cup in Van Der Sar's match, he's such a talent.

It is a good point, not many international tournaments start "entertaining" and that's simply because apart from about a dozen teams there aren't many very good teams in reality. While it's heart-warming to see the African and Asian sides on the same stage as the likes of Brazil and Germany there's no getting away from it, Japan getting anything from anyone like England, Italy, Germany will always be seen as a shock.
The only thing that has been disappointing so far is the quality of the top sides in my opinion. Germany aside nobody has impressed me yet, but the bottom line is it's still the first round of group games. Most people will tell you they'd prefer to hold their best form off until the "business end" of the tournament if they could help it.

It is pretty gash to be honest but the next round of fixtures should be decent as alot of teams will have to go out and force the issue and there is also some pretty big games to come like brazil v portugal etc, I wouldnt write off the whole tournament as shite yet.

I think this thread sums up the modern day football fan perfectly. Average is now the norm and they expect nothing more.
This is supposed to be the greatest tournement in the world. These are supposed to be the best players in the world. Yet so far what have they served up....football that even Megson wouldn't touch.
Face facts, the footballers of today are rubbish and it's only the media wheel that keeps people interested.

It would be interesting to see how the International teams would fare in the Prem. A number of teams have 2 or 3 good players and the rest are distinctly ordinary which thinking about it sounds remarkably like Bolton

Nobody is saying there happy to put up with it, they are just trying to shed some light on the possible reason for the slow start.

Group stage is very often pretty crap hopefully when they get to the straight knockout there will be some better games well apart from the ones involving England obviously

Tournaments don't really start slowly tbh. I think it is just wishful thinking from everyone. Certain teams start slowly, but not the whole tournament like this one. It's just been shite.
It will get better, I don't doubt that, but it can hardly get much worse.

I'm not sure what it is but I'm not really that hyped up about the World Cup this time around. At previous competitions, I couldn't wait for the World Cup to start but not this year. Maybe it is the fact that we have an Italian Manager representing our Country.
