I am sick of the stupid bullshit stories about the poor downtrodden black africans and the big bad whitemen stealing the land and forcing them into slavery. I am also sick of the guilt trip that the BBC and ITV are trying to put across to make them seem sympathetic towards the africans, I thought this was a football competition not a chance to play the morale high ground.
It has fcúk all to do with football which is what the world cup is all about, save that bollocks for the history channel.

Frightened of learning something new? The same is done every world cup comeptition - history of the hosting countries. I actually quite like it - there again, I like researching history

I dont recall everybody banging on about the Nazi's during the last world cup in Germany, lets face it that is the thing that history will always remember them for. I dont remember the same thing during the South Korean/Japan world cup either and neither the french world cup which proves this is a one off. If they want to do human interest bollock then do it before the world cup and not during.

They have - you have probably just normally by-passed it until kick-off time!!
Lets put it this way ITV started the show at 615 and yet KO is not until 730, and everyone knows evening kick-off are not until 730, so why you bothering to watch the waffle?

The BBC or ITV would not bang on about the 2nd world war because the germans are obviously sensitive about otherwise why make it a criminal offense, do you really think the politcally correct bbc are going to start doing human interest stories about them gassing jews and invading Poland? I dont think so somehow. I am enjoying Adrian Chiles mocking the yanks at the minute however.

so you are only going on about something that last only a few years (i know that was bad enough anyway) but Germany and the fore-runner countries have been there for centuries and has plenty of history both good and bad - don't forget that English is based upon an old germanic dialect!
See interesting ;-)

How do define dull? posting shite on a forum,or pretending you are fat for cash. As us in the free world know UK residents are pretty strapped for cash, and to prove the point, you would all rather sit at your keyboards nightly instead of getting out and pulling fanny/big boys.

Martin, a forum is just a bit of light heartedness, a forum you seem to manage to get on pretty regularly. The World Cup is a load of football matches, a time of enjoyment. Why we need that sanctamonous claptrap shoving down our throats, well, we'd watch the history channel if we had any interest. So, where's the free world these days, a holiday resort somewhere off the colony of America? Smashing.

Exactly and it is the fact it is solely because it is a world cup in Africa that they feel to enlighten us, It has never been done before at any other world cup especially the last one as the germans are not going to take kindly to be reminded of them trying to take over the world.

What does the amount of cash I have got to do with pulling fanny/big boys. Is that your way of saying you have to pay for it? Don't answer that. You're a 48 year old holiday rep, of course you have to pay for it.

I find it quite interesting as it's something different. It's only so magnified because it's the first World Cup in Africa and considering it's only on for four weeks it's hardly a problem to give a bit of background to the country. There wasn't much of it for Germany and France not only because the BBC is overly PC but because everyone knows it as well as the people who live in those countries. A bit like there probably wasn't much of a historical theme for Euro 96.
It's like anything else though, if it bothers you just don't watch it. Come back when it kicks off.

I just wish we could have the option of Sky Sports so we don't have to put up with amateurs doing it.

Agreed on that one. I was one of the lucky ones with the England goal in that I was still sat at home waiting for a late taxi when it went in, and since I'm a pauper that doesn't have HD yet I saw it in all it's glory - then found out when I got in town that everyone else had missed it due to ITV being completely inept once again.

I cant believe people are supporting it, too many unwashed student twats watching the beautiful game these days who are more interesting in how they can learn more about the host nation so they can discuss it with there student mates over fondue and wine.

Agreed, people slag off Keys, Gray and Redknapp but the fact is, they know what they're doing and can actually string a sentence together unlike Edgar Davids who is just awful, and Vieira is no better either. Adebayor isn't too bad in comparison to those two but I think they should stick to people that can do it rather than getting big name current/ex footballers to do it that contribute nothing to the 'analysis'.

They do seem to have picked random ex-footballers who are never going to be any great shakes, but the supposed professionals they have on BBC & ITV are pisspoor. I dislike Gary Lineker, he's a smug prick & Adrian Chiles has a voice you want to mute and the face of a cabbage patch doll, oh and he's overpaid.

I don't really mind Lineker and Chiles, they are both a bit smug but generally make me laugh on odd occasion and at least know what they are talking about. I must admit it does annoy me though seeing Marcel Desailly celebrating a Ghana goal, you turned them down to play for France you bellend you can't have two teams.
