We can't keep looking at every signing other clubs make and think "we dodged a bullet there". These are the players that are available and I'm getting a bit concerned that we seem to be passing up every opportunity we get. Senderos isn't that bad of a player and considering beyond Cahill and Knight we don't really have a central defender of Premiership quality signing Senderos couldn't have hurt us much.
Another one bites the dust.

I personally think he could have done a very good job. I'd say that he's cerainly better than Knight and, with him being 24, him and Cahill could have (hopefully) formed a long lasting defensive partnership. For a minimal initial outlay, and the potential sales / release of Shittu / O'Brien, I doubt we will do any better

I honestly think we have wasted a hell of chance to have a good defence next season with him and Cahill (if he stays), if he got into the arsenal and AC milan side when he was on loan there then he is certainly good enough to play for us.
A shrewd signing by Roy if you ask me.

Meh. Could work out and be a great signing or could flop if he continues to make the same mistakes that have kept him out of Arsenal team.
If they lose Hangeland and PS is the replacement I'm convinced it is just another nail in the long running inevitability they will go down in the next 2 years

How come you are so convinced Fulham will fall down the league Jimbo? Seems a bit of a strange response to a side who finished in the top half of the league and looked more than comfortable against most teams when at home, and even capable away on occasions last year.

[they] finished in the top half of the league
Not to be pedantic but they finished 12th and only 7 points ahead of us (which could have been less had Kevin Davies' goal stood) who have just endured, by some accounts on here, the worst season of football known to man. Well, since the previous season anyway. And the one before that. They did very well in the UEFA Cup or whatever the hell it is supposed to be called now. That cannot be overlooked. However, at the end of the day it is a cup competition. Great results and against some huge teams and some wonderful memories for all the supporters but I don't think it's a true measure of how the team have performed. For that, you have to look to the league. If they lose Hodgson, which is not unlikely (although him going to Liverpool is a ridiculous appointment) they could be in trouble.

If Hodgson goes Fulham will fall off. They are in that group of about 10 teams who could as easily finish 9th as they could finish 18th. The momentum keeping them round 10th is Hodgson. Few of the players are good; Duff, Hangeland Gera, Schwarzer, Zamora(although im convinced he'll fall back to averageness sooner rather than later) Lose a few of those and the monentum of having lost a good manager, it wouldn't suprise me at all to see them scrapping round the bottom 4/5.

That's what I would be saying about our survival chances if we had him at centre half. I think he's a really bad player, and for him to go somewhere else is great news. I trust Owen Coyle to make the right signings this summer and sometimes no news is good news, especially when players like Senderos are mentioned.

Not to be pedantic but they finished 12th and only 7 points ahead of us Fair enough, it was a lazy guess from me really. But they have been comfortable all season really and although they only ended 7 points ahead of us that gap was always there all season. The thing is with Fulham everyone underestimates them because like Jimbo said they've no real history, no proper chants to speak of or away presence. But they are a strong side really, they've no real stand-out stars but they are tough to beat and have shown this season they can beat the mid-table teams quite well. True they *could* lose a couple of players and fall down the league but isn't that true of anyone outside the top eight?

Fair point, but we were comfortable for the majority of the 2008/2009 season, yet the fear of relegation overhangs the majority of the clubs in the lower reaches of the Prem (i.e. anyone below Everton). If they lose Hodgson, I can see them struggling next season. On paper, their squad isn't particularly amazing, although it is certainly better than some in the lower reaches of the Prem.
I think for my part it is borne out of hope than expectation.

If Hodgson signed him then that will be enough for most Fulham fans, he's not done much wrong yet. Senderos and Hangeland would be a very good partnership as Senderos was always good next to Campbell when he had someone to shout at him and tell him what to do.

Why? I think it would be a fantastic appointment for Liverpool. The guy is a proven manager at this level and given a bigger budget I reckon he'd be a safer bet than another foreigner with no Prem experience.

He has all of five years Prem experience spread over two decades. Wow! Apart from a year at Inter, the rest of his career has been in D list leagues.
Sorry, but if Liverpool want to get back in to the Champions League, they need to aim a lot higher than Roy Hodgson, however nice he is.

He probably would be a safer bet than some random foreigner but if Liverpool want to achieve their ambitions, which is winning the Premier League, then they have to go for someone who is capable of doing that. Don't get me wrong, I think Hodgson is a solid manager and would really steady the ship at Liverpool but is he really the kind of guy to beat Fergie to the Premier League? I don't think so. He could probably deal with the mind games and the pressure no problem but I just think he's missing that edge to make it to the very top.

A steady manager might be what they need now after the uncertainty of recent times with the owners. He might not be the guy to lead Liverpool to the Premier League in one season but I really don't think anyone in the world could in that space of time. But what Hodgson would do is make sure they at least maintain the status quo, keep Liverpool as one of the big boys, possibly get them back in the top four, and prevent a Leeds-style collapse.

Agreed that he would do that, but we all know what foreign owners are like, they want success, success and success. It would make me piss if they got Dalglish again as I would love to see them finish mid table next season.

Thing is Howfen, Liverpool are no longer a top side. They will only be able to attract managers with the potential to win titles (like Hodgson) rather than those that have done so. You take Gerrard and Torres out of the Liverpool starting 11 and you've got a very average Premiership side.

Totally agree but the fans and owners don't see it that way, they still see themselves as a top side and think they can win the league.

And they are the only team, who has won the league before the season has started every single season (according to the fans)

Hughes is a decent manager, he was just getting City going in the right direction when they sacked him.

Like Nat says if you take Torres and Gerrard out of the team its bloody poor IMO, I can't say i can name 3 players who i would take from there side who I think would walk into our side and make it better other than Mascherano.
