At the request of a few people last month, we will be running a prediction competition throughout the World Cup.

Run by FIFA, the official organisers of the tournament, you need to predict the correct outcome of all 64 matches over the next month.

To take part, you will need to register with the FIFA website by clicking the link below:
http://www.fifa.com/theclub/index.html

Once you have registered, close the window and open up this link:
http://www.fifa.com/worldcuppredictor/

Agree to their 'Terms & Conditions' and you have completed the registration process.

To join the Burnden Aces mini-league, click on 'My Leagues' and in the 'Join a private league' box, enter the following code:
127132-6223

Click 'Join Private League' and you are all done. All you have to do then is make your predictions. Rules and scoring explanations are given on the FIFA website.

The league will close to new entries on Friday 11th June, prior to the first match of the tournament.

To keep track of the standings throughout the whole month, visit the link below:

Joined up and entered all R1/2/3 predictions. The scoring system seems fooking terrible and random though.

For example; Ivory Coast to beat North Korea = 89pts but draw only gets you 19pts despite IC obviously being strong faves in real life.

Weird. Should be a larf anyway.

Signed up now, I'm not even worrying about the weird scoring thing though. I'm just bothered about getting the result right - i.e. who wins, the points will be what they will. I wonder if Natasha will sign up and predict England to lose every game?

I'll be closing the league to entries prior to the South Africa v Mexico match tomorrow afternoon so if you want to join in, now's the time to do so.

Could you not do a group PM to all members Manny? I'm just thinking the last time we had this was at the start of the PL season and we had so many complaining that they didn't know about the deadline and not everyone will check this thread or even this sub-forum...

I won't be sending PMs out at this stage because it's too late and will probably crash the server. Most people won't know this, but you're stuck to 20 PMs per hour. I'm exempt as admin but, like I said, time has beaten us.

Emails to the board members might be a good idea for next season's Prediction League and Fantasy Football though.

Fair enough, as a last idea a bulletin across all boards might have been an idea also but like you say with the whole thing starting tomorrow it's probably a bit late. Oh well, less people to finish below Cheesy

For the record my opening day predictions have gone for a draw between South Africa and Mexico, and for France to beat Uruguay. Let the games begin.

I've gone for Mexico and France to take all three points. I think South Africa are in real danger of becoming the first hosts to go out in the groups.

Well in the World Cup maybe but to me they would just follow the pathetic example of Austria and Switzerland two years ago. That's the risk you run by awarding it to these countries where the main goal is to spread the football gospel rather than actually award it to the countries that probably deserve and would embrace it more.

Expect France to do better than most predict though, that's my one wildcard for this tournament.

Bit harsh on South Africa. They have a decent team. Not World Cup winning but it wouldn't suprise me if they qualified although I think Uruguay and France will edge through.

Think they'll win 2-1 today. With Uruguay and France drawing.

They are the lowest ranked country ever to have hosted the WC. It's all political, let's be honest.

Mexico look the better side IMO but they have a dodgy keeper so I can't call the 2nd half.

With the World Cup guarenteed to be held in an African country the only country I can think of that would been adept to hosting it would have been Egypt.

SA was the best choice of the African countries.

1-0 up too.

The attacking south african players remind me of ricardo gardner in that they seem to not really have much of a clue where there going but manage to get past a player.

The ref has really surprised and impressed me, when I saw they was from uzbekistan I thought why are referees from tin pot nothing footballing nations refereeing at the world cup but he has been really good. He has also sent off that robotic munich (unt 18 months ago so he cant be all bad.

Mphela and Franco have been equally shíte in front of goal.

Otherwise, decent game. Mexico were better on the ball but Tshabalala and Modise looked good on the break. Gaxa too at right back was good going forward.

Entertaining game that, good start to the World Cup, Mexico bossed the 1st half, but SA had chances and nearly won it in the last minute when Mphela hit the outside of the post.

More of the same in the Uruguay France  game I hope.

I fear many of this site are Shandy drinking fairies and such a problem would not be a issue.

Was it just me or was the camera work shite? Everytime SA went near the Mexico goal the camera seemed to pull back too quickly.
