I have two...

Since Mavies is about to become Solden and BB also sponsor a player each season, should we consider sponsoring a player for 2010/11? We could do what BB do and ask regular posters here to pitch in so Manny wouldn't have to fund it himself!

Also, we could "borrow" the Salut Sunderland/SAFC Forum feature and get fan interviews from other teams forums!

Thoughts?  Smiley

Sound like decent ideas especially the 2nd, I know not many on here care what other fans think of us but i like to know just what they think of us before we play them.

I like how you suggest sponsoring a player which would come out of Manny's pocket because who in there right mind is going to volunteer to sponsor a player.  Tell you what the £100 that Natasha was never going to pay for the bet she lost can go towards Manny's sponsor a player a fund.

This site does not need to sponsor a fringe player as it is firmly established in the forum world and has more than 3 people agreeing with each other.

I'm sure Didle would cover all costs associated with sponsoring Chung Lee's y-fronts.

What Sharps says really.

The cost for sponsoring a first team player last season was £800 - I guess it will be more next season.  We simply don't have that sort of money.

Sponsoring a player will get you publicity - but who in there right minds spends £800 on advertising a BWFC footy forum - particularly when there are at least seven other existing BWFC sites already!

Anyway if sponsoring a player helps attract so many new posters to a site, then why are Bolton Banter counting up to 500 a number at a time and the Mavis board been banned from other BWFC forums for trying to poach their members - is it perhaps that it doesn't really work?

I wouldn't mind us sponsoring a player but like Sluffy said, it's just too expensive and I don't like asking anybody to donate money.

As for the interviewing of other club's fans, we tried it a couple of years ago and it didn't quite work out. However, I put the idea to Danny a few months ago and it's something we'll be doing again from August.

Bolton Banter's advert is awful, it's literally just the URL. I've no idea if that's out of their control or not but they could have made it a bit more informative, if people just saw www.boltonbanter.com I can bet a lot of people would have no idea what that was. I think it's a good way of promoting the site if the money can be put together, but the advert has to be right and take advantage of sponsoring the player i.e. interviews and pictures for the site. Bolton Banter have done neither.

Firstly, I do not ever imagine Manny would spend the large amount of money by himself. Although it is his site, we should only ever do something as big as sponsoring a player if the majority of people who use the site pulled together and funded it. If my original post came across to some people as me expecting Manny to foot all or most of the bill, I'm sorry because that was not my intention at all.

Obviously it depends on how willing other clubs fans will be to help us out and take the time to answer the questions we put to them. Salut seem to get more positives than negatives from it though, so theres hope it'll work this time!

This feature may be a good addition to the Blog section perhaps? Smiley

That's where they'll be going, although the idea was put forward long before the blogs came about. We're working on this behind the scenes.

For £800 you could put an advert in the Bolton News which would attract more people to the site.

I don't know what their prices are but I've put some in the Hull Daily Mail before and they can be pretty pricey for what they are, I think you would get much more value for money having an advert up flash on the screen for a full season than a day or two in the paper.

Not over-keen on the sponsorship deal, but I'm liking the other fans input quite a lot.

Can we abuse them, I mean make it sort of a light hearted Q & A session?

Why dont you move the forum to a new place on the top right side of the toolbar?
