I think the first choice back four will be the same throughout the tournament if there is no injuries. Still not sure who will be N0.1 keeper and Capello said he will tell them just before the USA game.

So we have.

Goalkeepers
James/Hart/Green

Defence
G.Johnson..R.Ferdinand[C]..J.Terry..A.Cole

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Capello likes a player upfront for Rooney to play off, he also likes a holding player like Barry[if he's fit, he will play I think] and that usually means Gerrard is put left. With the 23 squad I'm going to make a few formations and see what you think. Also it's Wayne Rooney and ? so it's the midfield what will be Capello's major headache.

There are loads of alternatives and it would taker forever, so use the key's below to understand my formations.

Blue = Right wing .. Red = Center midfield .. Green = Left Wing

/ = One or t'other.

Formation 1 - 4-1-3-2

Midfield
G.Barry/M.Carrick
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.Lampard/S.Gerrard..J.Cole/S.Gerrard/J.Milner

 Front 2
W.Rooney..P.Crouch/E.Heskey or W.Rooney..J.Defoe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formation 2 - 4-1-3-2 - With Lampard or Gerrard
Midfield
G.Barry/M.Carrick
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.Lampard/S.Gerrard..J.cole/J.Milner

Front 2
W.Rooney..P.Crouch/E.Heskey or W.Rooney..J.Defoe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formation 3 - 4-4-2
Midfield
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.Lampard..S.Gerrard..J.Cole/J.Milner

Front 2
W.Rooney..P.Crouch/E.Heskey or W.Rooney..J.Defoe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formation 4 - 4-1-3-1-1
Midfield
Barry/M.Carrick
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.Lampard..J.Cole/S.Gerrard/J.Milner

                                                                                                        S.Gerrard/J.Cole
                                                                             W.Rooney
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formation 5 - 4-4-1-1
Midfield
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.Lampard..S.Gerrard..J.Cole/S.Gerrard/J.Milner

                                                                                                         S.Gerrard/J.Cole
                                                                              W.Rooney

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formation 6 - 4-5-1
Midfield
A.Lennon/J.Milner/J.Cole..F.lampard..G.Barry/M.Carrick..S.Gerrard..J.Cole/J.Milner

Striker
W.Rooney

That's my guess, I know players like SWP can also be used, but the players in my formations are the ones I believe will be in Capello's thought more if they are injury free. I'm not saying M.Carrick should play, but if Barry isn't fit he seems to be his replacement, don't think James Milner in that holding position[like Mexico] is what we should do.

Thoughts?

See, you can do it if you want. That goes under formation 6.

I'll go with that only with either James or Hart in net.

And if Barry isn't fit Ledley King to play defensive mid.

I really don't rate Green, I think he might go with experience in James, but I have been impressed with Hart.

Decisions decisions.

The team I suggested is the team I expect Capello to play.

Personally I'd pick Hart & James before Green in goal and Aaron Lennon would be sat at home watching it on his 200" TV.

No more than I rate Walcott or Wright Phillips.

Fantastic on their day, but their day happens about once a year.

I thank you.

This is my preferred team except with Hart in nets.

I don't think you can knock that England side it looks pretty decent to me.

Joe Cole is a MUST. He's always brilliant for England.

The reason I like the formation is because it's not just a 4-5-1, it can be so much than that, Barry gives Lampard and Gerrard the freedom to express their game in the way they do for club. We ha$ve pace and creativity on the wings and a World Class player in Rooney to connect it all together and he has a lot of success for Man United being the lone front man.

If Rooney drops back we have players to push forward, Rooney loves to comeand get the ball and do a long crossfield ball to the right wing, get Rooney doing that to Lennon then Rooney Lampard and Gerrard get in the box, with J.Cole hanging around near the edge of the box to pick up any lose balls to show his magic.

Didledee - Next England manager lol
