I read today that Everton were hoping to sign Jermaine Beckford on a bosman. I know a lot of people on here have previously suggested we sign Beckford and I agree, he has a great scoring record and ok it maybe in the championship and league one but he did score at Old Trafford this season.
We are crying out for a goalscorer who can offer something very different and Beckford on a free in my opinion fits the bill perfectly. Anyone think the same? If not who do you think we should go for?

He hasnt got a great goalscoring record in the Championship. He wasn't good enough so they loaned him out to a League One club. He has been left on the Leeds bench for plenty of matches this year and most their fans want him to leave.
Rather give Danny Ward a game ahead of that overated wanker.

He was good enough to score some quality goals against top Prem teams this season.
Bobby Zamora was an overrated wanker last season.

This is not true, he was loaned out to championship Scunthorpe where he scored loads of goals.

Leeds were in the Championship, he couldn't get in the team so they loaned him out to Lg 1 Scunthorpe where he scored 8 goals and they got promoted.
Zamora is a much better player than Beckford will ever be. By the time Zamora was Beckford's age he had already had a few seasons in the Premier League under his belt with Spurs and West Ham and had scored plenty of goals in the Championship.
Its all futile anyway. Most the deal to take him to Everton was done back in January. He is going there. Can't see him getting much game time.

Pull out the stops? It's not like he's some world beater is he? He's not good enough. If he was, he would have been at least in the Championship years ago.

It's funny how everyone is saying he's not good enough just because he's playing at League 1 level.
A chance is a chance whether it's in the Premiership or League 2. The boy clearly knows where the goal is, proven by the fact he's scored at Old Trafford & White Hart Lane this season - something none of our Premiership strikers could do.
He may turn out not to be good enough, but because he's available on a free transfer he is definitely worth a punt. Anyone who says otherwise is clueless (howfen).

Come on then, let's have some names of people we could seriously target.

Totally agree, well said. He was excellent against Man Utd and Spurs and made playing in the lower leagues look ridiculously easy. He is a dangerous player and I think its crazy for anyone to write him off before he has even been given a try. And for all those saying no, you do realise that if he fails we could easily sell him to a championship club for £1.5m and make profit on him anyway. Its a no brainer.

I'd definitely take him, but if Everton want him then he won't want to come to us ahead of them.

I guess it depends what sort of person he is. If it's just about money then he'd go to Everton. But maybe he wants to play every week as he is 28....then someone like Bolton could step in.

my understanding of the situation is that he signed a pre contract agreement with Everton in January. Only chance of him coming to the Reebok will be in a blue Everton shirt.

Money, and a bigger club. Everton don't have that many strikers and the ones they do are either out of form or always injured. He seems a pretty confident (possibly an understatement) kind of a guy, so he probably fancies his chances of getting a lot of games for them.

Having spoken to my sources this morning I can confirm Beckford has NOT signed any form of contract with Everton.
