Now it is possible that we could have a bad start next season but I think it is paramount to our whole season that we get behind the team and support the manager. The last thing we want is the 'Megson Atmosphere' back at the Reebok. It is possible that we could face Chelsea then Man United in our first two games which we are very unlikely to get something from those two games (although it would be nice if we could beat one of the big boys!), we cant start abusing players or Coyle just because we haven't had such a good start. Now obviously I'm hoping like every other Bolton fan, that we start off with a bang however there will be a time when we go through a 'bad patch' and that is when we need to get behind the players and Owen Coyle. It will be hard season as the three teams coming up are better than the three that have gone down, so I think we will need to get past the 40 point barrier to stay up, so lets cut the abuse and get behind the Wanderers no matter what happens next season!

I think Coyle will get the sort of blinkered cant do wrong treatment that Keegan got at Newcastle despite clearly being out of his depth, If things go wrong under Coyle it will probably be the players that get the stick and not the manager.
I do expect us to be pushing for Top 10 next season because I think we have the players and now we will have a manager with a mentality to try and win a game instead of not lose it.

Unlike Sharps above I am going to try and be more realistic.
Next season will be Owen Coyle's first season.
He has already stated that he wants rid of most of the squad (that shows how good Megson is) and to be honest Coyles most important area to strengthen is the defence.
We may also lose Cahill and Klasnic.
So he will have to buy to replenish and strengthen.
No matter what, including the pre-season, these new players will have to gel together and with the players left from the current squad (and vice versa). Thsi could take a month or a couple of months at most
Therefore I am assuming we could have a bit of a lacklustre styart - again this depends upon which teams we will be facing in those first 9 games.
My prediction will be possibly that Coyle will be looking at places 10 -14 to finish next season and continue to build on top of that season after.

I fail to see what was unrealistic seeing you just basically agreed we would be pushing for top 10.

If things start bad next season the players will get the blame from most fans as they see OC as the messiah but in all honesty everyone has to shoulder the blame.
I dont see us doing to bad next season and if you watch OC's press conferences he is never drawn on the question to where he thinks he can take us next season all he says is we are building the club again and taking it a season at a time which is a very good way to be.

The main problem with smeggers is that hardly any wanderers fans wanted him in the first place, i wasn't 100% convinced on coyle, but i'd sure as hell take him any day over megson...

Two days after the end of the season and already you're talking of a relegation battle next season. Idiot. A lot can happen between now and August. Like, for instance, you might get a brain.

Just being realistic, we will need 40 points to be sure of survival and when we get that, we can look to push up. I'm pretty sure most of the clubs that finished in the bottom half up to Blackburn will be looking to do the exact same.

It is hard to discuss next season without knowing who we'll be watching start the season in a White shirt but Jamster is right. We need to get this "something wrong, then I'll boo it right" mentality as far away from the Reebok as possible. It only ever did good once and that was Megson's final game, but that wasn't one or two chavs with bedsheets, that sounded like a good 20,000 or so all shouting "f**k off Megson".
Bad patches will happen next season. People are now talking of a top 8 next season with Spurs finally breaking the top four and any points off Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, City, Liverpool or Everton will have been very well earned. We know we can beat the sides we have to, i.e. the newly promoted sides plus Wigan, Wolves and West Ham. But to move up we need to now start beating the middle sides, Sunderland, Stoke, Fulham, Blackburn. I'm excited to see what we can do to be honest.
Bring it on Coyle.

That wasn't the case under Megson though was it. Most of the players came out of it unscathed.

We could lose 7-0 to Wigan on the first day of the season and I'd put good money on our fans not chanting 'Owen Coyle you're a wanker', because it's just not going to happen.
Yes there may be a few boo's if we lose a should-win game, but nothing to the extent of what Megson got. If anything, our fans have been very supportive of the manager and team since Coyle took over, and I can only see that getting better next season.

The trouble is with our fans Howfen, you know as well as I do that if we do get a winnable few games in August and actually win them (say, beat Wigan, West Ham and West Brom) then we will be singing for Europe, expecting top 8 again, and forget everything that went before. But I suppose if it's a choice between that and lose one game and we are "as good as down" as I can imagine someone like Natasha saying, then I'd go for the former.

I can assure that should we lose 7-0 to Wigan on the opening day of the season I will be calling for OC's head on a plate. The wanker.
