Cahill may just make the plane to South Africa but should he bother unpacking his bags when he gets back?
He's the only real asset we have - and could raise a enough money for Coyle to try to rebuild the side if we sell him - but without him this season (and his goals!), we may well have been joining Portsmouth and Burnley in the Championship next season.
Can we afford to sell him - or can we not afford to sell him?

Stay, If we want to progress as a football club we need to keep our star assets. I just hope to fcuking god that Gartside/Davies get their hands in their pockets. They gave the Ginger 40m ffs. Now there is apparently a lack of money?!?

Go, I say.
We aren't in a financial position to turn down 15m for a defender and we can do so much with that kind of money to enhance the team.
Plus, it is only a matter of time until he does go, so it's best we get top money for him.
No point in deluding ourselves that we can afford to compete with the top/rich clubs. We can't. We will pretty much always rely on selling on any top quality players we discover and sign to the club. At least not for another 2-3 (or more) years.
As for the club giving money to Megson vs. money to Coyle, there probably isn't money to give to Coyle BECAUSE it was given to Megson...though it wasn't 40m. Don't forget the Anelka and Nolan money that came into the coffers.

This is a no brainer, he has to be sold. We showed that we still kept clean sheets when he was injured when Ricketts came into the centre of defence. If we could sell him for £12m or more we could buy another centre back for about £5m and then use the rest to strengthen in attack. I like Cahill and I wish we could build a team around him but I think we should cash in on him like we did with Anelka in order to strengthen the team.

Id say possibly go. Weve looked poorer in defence since he's come back into the team and Zat's performance has dipped abit. He looks a much better player when Cahill isnt in the team. If we can get the figure thats being thrown around (12-15) then id say do it, Bring in another centre half to replace him and hopefully then strengthen up top.

I'd like to keep him but he needs a more consistent partner to play alongsides than Knight or AOB. Him and Ricketts could work well.
Any offer over £15m though and he's off.

Difficult one.Allardyce could bring in more reliable centre halves than Cahill for less money but he was a great Bolton manager.
I can't make my mind up.

Go. Or convert him to a striker.
He's a poor defender living on past performances. He's bullied too easily, we really need some steel at the back.

I allways thought he would be great in a holding-midfield position, has all the quality's, and can score some long range effort as well.

It makes me laugh how if you dare to suggest Cahill has been poor this season you're classed as a WUM.
If Cahill was half as good as some of you think we wouldn't have let in so many. The stats show we were better when he was out injured.

Well you are being a WUM if you suggest Cahill has had a bad season. I mean look at the facts, when he was in the team the first half of the season before his blood clot we didn't keep one clean sheet in the league. Since he has been back in the team he has been far from solid and made a mistake for one of the Portsmouth goals. So clearly you are a WUM if you think he has had a bad season. The facts speak for themselves that he has had an awesome season.

I say stay unless we get 18m for him. Then we can go raid Lens and Lille in France and come back with 2 CB's, an attacking mid and a goalscorer.

If we can get around £15million then let him fly off. If he's really that talented (and I personally think he is, but Natasha's right the stats don't really look that good for him under Coyle) then he has to go for his own career. And from our point of view we've all said for months Coyle needs a complete re-build. A lot need to go, and a lot need to replace them. A cash boost like this might be just the starting block we need to get the ball rolling on the revolution.
And who knows, he might not do so well somewhere else. Apart from Gudjohnsen, Anelka and maybe Claus Jensen, I can't name any players who left BWFC in the modern era and went on to better things.

Yeh, I'd let him go at the money that is being talked about. 15 million would be amazing. If he wasn't English, we would struggle to get 5. I do rate him, but another inconsistent season and his stock could fall. Realistically, whilst still a Bolton player, 15-18 is the highest his value is going going to get...

We'd struggle to get 5M?
People have short memories. Ok he's not been as effective since coming back from injury but he was head and shoulders our best player the first half of the season and was picked for Fabio Capello's squad four consecutive times. We paid 5M when he was a Villa reserve team player.
I agree 15M would be a good price for us, but equally I don't think he is a naff player now that he has had a few indifferent games.
In the market 10-12M seems a fair value. Bump that up to 15M-17M because he is fairly young, English and courting alot of interest.

I still rate him, of course I do. But I think he is rated so highly because he is English. You agree with my point I assume, as when we paid 5 million for a 'villa reserve', it was because he was English. No way would we have paid that otherwise. Look at the defensive signings from Europe in the last few seasons and you'll see what I mean...you can get a top international defender for much less than 15 million, just not an English one.
