Bolton manager Owen Coyle says he will not stop England hopeful Gary Cahill leaving if a 'big club' comes in with a bid for the centre back this summer. "I have always said, regardless of what club I am at, if there comes a time when any player outgrows the club, I won't stand in their way," said Coyle. Cahill has played 32 times for Bolton this term, scoring seven times but had been ruled out for the season after suffering a blood clot in his arm in February. However, the defender returned against Manchester United on 27 March after only a seven-week lay-off to put himself back in contention for a place in England manager Capello's squad this summer. And Cahill's inclusion in Capello's selection would surely see his stock rise that much further with Manchester United and Arsenal among the clubs reportedly interested in the centre half. "I said it to my Burnley lads when I was there - if there is something better for them out there, then they would go and blossom. That will be the same with Gary Cahill," added former Burnley boss Coyle. "I have got everything crossed that Gary gets to the World Cup because if he does he will be terrific, if he is allowed the opportunity. "And if that means that he is elevated to a position where they are all going to clamour for him, then good luck for Gary Cahill." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bolton_wanderers/8651443.stm

Why is it?
He's all but said he's for sale to the highest bidder (being the top 4-6 teams in this case)

Coyle isn't trying to send hidden messages out through that article, he's saying it as it is. Like any other player playing for a club outside the top 4/5 whatever it is now, if a big money bid comes in from someone, they're likely to leave, that's no different for us.

I asked Owen & Phil at the Q&A earlier this year about whether we would need to sell Cahill or not. My answer was we (Bwfc) don't need to sell Cahill and we were not looking to sell him either. It certainly looks like we're looking for a high priced sale now.
On the plus side, Coyle can use the funds to rebuild the squad. We just need to make certain we sort out the new CB(s) first...

Look at it logically.
Is Cahill more important to our team now than Anelka was to our team when he left? Not in my opinion. At least now we have a few other competant players. Anelka was about the only player performing when he was sold- well him and AOB!
Im led to believe Cahill's contract is up in 2 years time. Between then and now are we going to get more than 15M offer? Probably unlikely. If we wait till January and he has a good start we may get 17-18M instead, but then we have less options to replace him and less time to search for them.
After that he is in his final season and his value would probably be halved otherwise he'd walk for free at the end of the season.
I think this summer is the most we are going to get for him and as such it makes sense to sell(hopefully he gets an England cap before we sell him- add an extra couple of mil onto his value) get rid of the Swedish stump and some fringees and we give Coyle a good 15-20M warchest to go with and get the players he needs.

Sorry, but I always assumed that Cahill would go this summer. Still seems likely to me. Main problems are : How much can we get for him and who can we bring in with the cash (especially with other clubs then knowing we have a 'war chest'). Is it possible to bring players in BEFORE the world knows we have £xm available to spend ?

Who's ryan bertand?
Chelsea reserve left back. Done great wherever he has gone on loan- he is at Reading at the moment and one of their better players. He has represented England at every youth level and is in the U21's at the moment but he has got to that stage where he is good enough to be playing first team PL football but never going to be good enough to displace Cashley. Alot better than Samuel or Robbo.

If he is as good as you say then lets hope we at least try and bid for him.

I agree with Howfen, I think he is pretty much saying how it is. With a club our size their is no way we could refuse £15M. Some may think this lacks ambition, but that is the way it goes with smaller clubs; you lose players for big money and you look to build again.

I don't think he's saying "he will leave" at all, just that if the offer comes in then he won't stand in his way. Which is good because we should have played it like that with Ricketts when his stock was high. We could have got a good £10m for him and in the days before the foreign investment that was a hell of a lot for a side recently promoted. But we turned it down and eventually were well and truely grateful to get about a third of that.
But like I say this doesn't seem like a "come and get him" plea to me, just showing his confidence in Cahill to go onto bigger and better things at some point - with or without BWFC.

I dont know if anyone has read the Bolton News today or seen our page on sky sports but it seems cahill just may be off and the way he is speaking in the article it sounds very much like the interview Anelka did before he left, with the old ''well if i stay at bolton i will be happy but every player has ambition'' http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11672_6130916,00.html

I rate Cahill, he's a quality centre half, I hope he gets in the England squad, puts in a couple of decent shifts and adds some value to himself. Then sell him. I wouldn't take anything less than £15m.
If someone comes in with a daft offer, I think we should take it.

He isn't irreplaceable like Anelka so if somebody does come in with at least 12 million we should take it and strengthen other areas as well as bringing in another centre half for about the same price we signed GC. I personally don't think he will get in the England squad but if he does and he does feature and do well will only be good news for us.

It's a strange thing to start discussing but who would we want cahill to go to out of the top 4: Man Utd...Chelsea....Arsenal or maybe City/Spurs?

I think only City and Arsenal could be in the market for him anyway, Munich have signed that Smalling and Chelsea already have 4 quality centre halves aswell as Spurs already plenty at centre half. I dont think Arsenal would pay that kind of money for him and I could see City signing him because they do have plenty to spend and there other centre backs have hardly set the world alight. Not to be too harsh on Gary because what he had was a serious illness but he has looked pretty average since coming back from his blood clot and I dont think anybody in the top 6 will be wanting to commit to him just yet.

I agree with you there sharps and i think cahills type of play suites arsenal as he likes to go forward and has a mean left foot on him and an eye for goal.
Id hate it if he went to munich though.
