Temuri Ketsbaia anybody remember him?

Well I did and the following write up on him caught my eye earlier today -

Quote
As a player Temuri Ketsbaia might not have immediately suggested himself as a top European coach in waiting.

Ten years ago the shaven-headed Georgian with the deep-set eyes scored for Newcastle against Bolton. What followed turned Ketsbaia into a cult hero on Tyneside.

He ripped off his shirt, ran over to an advertising board and kicked it repeatedly while also trying to remove his boots. He kicked the hoarding with such ferocity he later learned he had broken his toe.

Ah yes - the crazed goal celebration...... its all coming back to me now!

Well I've searched for it on Youtube and found it on a clip about the twenty best goal celebrations - a six minute clip that actually brings back a lot of memories.

If you can't be bothered watching them all the crazy Georgians goal and celebration are at about the 5.45 mark.

Sluffy's Dates gives you the one when when a returning from injury Shearer inspided the Geordies to a last minute win -

Premiership - Newcastle 2-1 Bolton - 17th January, 1998

Geordies killer blow

MARK Fish flew to Africa last night after giving the most dramatic appraisal yet of Wanderers' survival prospects.

The South African centre-back, heading for a friendly international with African Nations Cup rivals Namibia, admits it will be crunch time at the Reebok when he returns.

"We've got to beat Coventry in a fortnight or else..!" Fish warned as he assessed the wreckage left by the latest cruel blow to his team's Premiership ambitions.

"We need to start picking up points quickly if we are going to improve our situation. If we don't win that one, we're going nowhere."

Bolton concede a late goal?! Some things never change do they.

I don't know how but I remember this and thinking the guy was a total nutcase.

Went to Cyprus a couple of years ago and he'd just guided Anorthosis into Europe for the first time, I won't forget how much of a god they thought he was, but to me he'll always be a nutcase.
