Take away Messi's goals and tricks and you're also left with a pretty average player.
Great post, don't let the facts get in the way I always say. Unfortunately Messi has already scored more goals than Okocha scored in his WHOLE CAREER. In addition, Messi has played his football at the TOP level, Okocha never did.

We just took away all Messi's goals, remember? On to the facts: Jay-Jay - top league in France and England, Messi - top league in Spain. Jay-Jay - WC '94, '98 (Made the squad of the tournament), 2002, Messi - WC2006. Great post though - I see you really don't let facts get in the way.

Your fcuking clueless you are pal.
Agreed with Sharps. Comparing Muamba to Okocha is like saying Jaaskelainen is crap because his goalscoring record isn't as good as Davo's. Muamba isn't the type of player to create things, he kills what other teams create. And does a good job of it too. Still, the people on here who have been to the games CLEARLY don't have a clue what they are talking about and are nominating the lad for player of the year just for a laugh.

It just about sums up our season when fans are voting for someone who for the first 30 games never found a white shirt and had fans ducking in row z of the NSU whenever he shot.

Okocha didn't play at the top of the English league, I can assure you we were very much at the bottom. Not sure Messi has played much at the wrong end of La Liga. And I can't remember Okocha lighting up the Champions League very often. Again, Okocha played for Nigeria but if I'd been born in Lagos I reckon I'd have been picked. There's a world of difference between playing for Argentina and Nigeria. For your next trick why don't you tell me why Kevin Davies is better than Pele.

It would be stupid to say Okocha was better than what Messi is now, no one is better than Messi.
But there is no doubt Okocha in his 1st season was an absolute magician, when he came back from injury against Birmingham and scored he was week in week out the talk of the town, the talk of the prem, the entertainer and the player that kept us up.
Tricks, goals, assists, unique celebrations, creativity, he had everything.
No wonder he was voted Bolton's 2nd best player behind Nat Lofthouse.

There is a world of difference between saying "Top league" and "Top of the league" - you should have been specific. Okocha was voted one of the top 16 players in WC '98 - a fact you conveniently overlooked. As to turning tricks, I'll leave that to you.

Spurs away - I might have been hammered - but I remember Okocha having the game of his life.
But, I always thought Youri was the better player, as someone stated earlier.

Pele never played for Chesterfield, end of discussion.

I remember that game a.s., a bit before my days of getting hammered on away trips but I remember him having one of those perfect footballing days. We hit the bar three times and I think they were all Okocha, he must have had about half a dozen on target himself that day but someone else (Pedersen?) won it for us. Superb day that, one of my best away memories.
