Taylor to Birmingham?

ALEX McLEISH is ready to offer Matt Taylor an escape route to Birmingham from Bolton with a £2million bid this summer.
Taylor, 28, is unhappy under new boss Owen Coyle and wants to leave.

But McLeish will face a tussle with Sunderland chief Steve Bruce for his signature.

Can't see us getting more than 3M for him, he is essentially a Championship player now.

I like Matty but he isn't good enough to play for Bolton ergo he theoretically shouldn't be good enough to play for Sunderland and Birmingham. I'd take 2.5M-3M.

It depends how Coyle sees his team shaping up for next season. Presumably he will want pace and creativity on the wings with the likes of Lee, Wilshere, Gardner and Weiss all looking to fit the bill, but Taylor, while he's played well for us (not recently obviously) he may struggle to find a place in the Owen Coyle Revolution of 2010. Particularly if he doesn't offer any reason between now and May as to why we should actually keep him on.

That's the thing though, people want rid of Taylor, but they also want rid of Cohen, McCann, J O'Brien, Sean Davis. There's a very good chance Wilshere and Weiss won't be here next season, though I wouldn't be too bothered about Weiss judging off his performances for us. He isn't having the best of times on the pitch but looking at the bigger picture, we shouldn't get rid unless he really wants to leave AND we have a replacement in line.

Lee has had a good season, but so did Taylor last season. What's to say Lee suffers from the second season syndrome that effects a lot of footballers coming from abroad. As for Gardner, unless played on the wing he's a wasted talent but Coyle seems to prefer playing him as a centre mid.

Doesn't really matter what fans want, I think Coyle wants Taylor out because quite frankly I don't think he rates him, he sees him as a saleable asset and I do get this feeling he'll make a stink if he doesn't play.

Why though? We could get a lot more money for him. Why do we always cave in and accept less than what we should have? Nolan and Michael Ricketts both went for less than we should have got for them, even Anelka did IMO. Let's not do the same with Taylor, if we hold on for once we could get a lot more for him.

Nolan- 4M was a good price.

Diouf- 2.5M, I remember people saying he should have gone for 7M...2.5M is about what he is worth. I think Sunderland went on to sell him for about 1.5M-2M to Blackburn.

To be honest that argument supports selling him sooner rather than later. In both of those examples we waited too long to sell and ended up with a lot less than we could have. It may be that £2.5m-£3m is the best we'll ever get for Taylor as he is now and if we hold out til January 2011 or longer then we may be grateful for anyone who offers above £1m for the lad.

I remember with Ricketts in that summer of 2002 we could have offloaded him to Spurs for £10m but chose to keep our asset, who fast depreciated over the next few months, leaving us delighted we conned someone out of the £3.5m we did.

His current run of form is no worse than Nolan's when he transferred to the bar codes.

He had a great season last year but i cannot see him doing that again for us. He seems to have lost his passion and now would be a great time to cash in on him. Id say 2.5-3 million would be ideal but from what we have seen this year, 2million wouldnt be so bad IMO.

I've got to disagree Jimbo, I do honestly think we accept a lot less, especially as the three players in question are all English with Premier League experience.

There are reports that Jermaine Jenas will be going to Inter Milan for about £8m, what the fcúk has he ever done in his career? There are a lot more examples but that's just one off the top of my head

Jenas plays for Spurs and England and he's being linked with Inter Milan. I'm not his biggest fan but compare that to Nolan who hadn't had a good game in nearly 3 years, was out of shape, played for a team in a relegation battle, linked with a team in a relegation battle. 4M/8M sounds about right to me. Ditto Matt Taylor. What has he ever done in his career?

Played for Luton for a while.
Played for Portsmouth until they got into the top 10 then he was benched
Played for Bolton when they were a relgation side
As soon as they started trying to play better football was frozen out.

Not exactly a winning track record.
