The World Cup is just 100 days away. Throughout the summer, we'll be holding a sweepstake so we can still have an interest in the tournament after England have been knocked out.

The tournament finishes on 11th July and the winner will be known.

Here is what I propose:
£2 per entry (maximum of 2 entries per person), making up a prize pot of £64.
Winner receives £50
Runner-up receives £15 (I'll throw in the extra quid, it won't bankrupt me)

Payment to be made via PayPal or to me in person, for those who know me. If you don't have a PayPal account, I will set up a page that allows you to pay with your credit/debit card through their site.

To make things fair, I won't enter myself into the competition because if I draw Brazil and Spain then people will just complain.

After reading Sluffy's proposed draw method, I will be entering the sweep.

The winners will be given their money back through PayPal or, if I know them, in person.

No money will be changing hands yet but who would be interested?

Entrants so far:
1 - DannyW
2 - Didledee
3 - Italian Trotter
4 - jimbo_bwfc
5 - dh1985
6 - Big_Sharps
7 - The Ghost of Burnden
8 - chris_rabz
9 - Squidgy
10 - Weststander
11 - bolton78
12 - wakeywhite
13 - Manny
14 - Craig-J
15 - Sluffy

You could enter quite fairly Manny - this is how.

Prior to a lotto draw you list on the forum the 32 teams and 32 players (some players being listed twice if they buy two teams in the draw).

Then the first drawn ball out of the lotto is the number you use to allocate the teams to players.

Say the first ball drawn is number 7 - the 7th team on the list is given to the 7th name listed - the 14th team to the 14th player.... 21st and then 28th.

You then count down to the bottom of the list (32nd) and start again from the top which would bring you to number 3 on the list.

The next number on the list would (because number 7 as already been crossed out) be number 11.

It sounds complicated but really it is not.

I suggest that for ease the lotto ball you use to determine who gets which team is the first ball drawn out that is 20 or less - otherwise you would be there all night trying to work things out if the first ball drawn and used was say number 47!

Since nobody will be seeing the draw being made, I'll be open to criticism anyway unless I drew Algeria and North Korea!

What I plan to do is put all the entrants names into the database and have them randomly selected to go against the names of the countries, which will also be drawn at random. That way I can make a live page on the website where people can see the draw as it is being made.

Plus, I don't have any lottery balls.  Grin

Was meaning the National lotto.

Everything is posted up on the forum before the lottery draw - the only thing that is not known is the number of the ball used to determine who gets which club - hence the use of the National Lottery draw and everybody can see for themselves who will get what once it has been drawn.

Just a way that organisers of draws can play themselves and avoid being accused of fixing it!

I'll give it a go despite my apalling luck in these types of games. The only time I have ever come close to a decent chance was when I drew France............. in 2002!

With that in mind, come on Algeria!

Im in although when would you require the money?

I would hold off on letting people have 2 teams and see if you can get 1 poster per team and then allow people to have 2 teams if interest isnt so great.

If you wanted to play, we could always arrange to meet before a game.

Im in although when would you require the money?

Probably going to run this thread until the end of the month. People saying they're interested and actually parting with their money are two different things but we'll see how it goes.

I'd be in but have no way of paying online, would giving it you in person work?

Go on, let the moths out of your wallet.

I have amended the original post to show who has got their name down so far. Taking on board what Sharps said, we'll see how the numbers pan out. If we're struggling for 32 then we'll go with 16 and it'd be first come first served to get your name on the list.

We'll see how things go with that. Like Sharps said earlier in the thread, if there is enough interest for 1 country each then we'll run with that. If not, you can have 2.
