On a serious note, I once looked into going to Haiti (I'm not a fan of places over-ridden with tourists). I've got a feeling it'll go the way some of Cuba has when it gets on it's feet though.
In a way Squidgey,not counting the dead and injured,Haiti as a country will benefit well from this disaster.A much better infrastructure,and economy should see tourism flock back there,never been over there myself,although it's only 150 miles to the border,we have always been warned never to go,but I think all that will change over the next 5 years. |

I can see were you are coming from, it's just a personal preference for me. I like places to be a bit more challenging and a real travel experience than a carbon copy of places I've been before. |

in 1993 I spent the spring/ summer in Naples took a train to a small village outside of Selermo for the aniverary of the allied invasion
While sitting in a pub late one night with a couple of friends a few pints showed up on our table sent from some older gents behind us when I went to say thanks we found out they were royal marines and the first to land on the beach in 1943 we drank with them for 2 more days and went on a walk up the hills where they routed the Germans. the locals were incredable and the experience was life changing
