This isn't a go at the armed forces, but the reasoning behind a lot of stuff going on at the moment.

Iraq - were they really a threat to the UK or even our 'allies'?
Afghanistan - as above (as a country, not a handfull of extremists)

Is this not really about oil reserves, the real reasoning behind the warmongering? Or are we just sucking up to the Yanks. Have we become too politically dependent on them?

Costa Rica abandoned their armed forces some years ago and invested it inwardly into the country. They are now the most wealthy and prosperous country in that particular neck of the woods. I'm not saying we completely get rid of the armed forces, just reel them in considerably in accordance with a realistic risk assessment.

You're questioning Afghanstan not being a threat? You need your tv remote getting stuck on Sky News for a few days. That place is rammed packed full of mentalists. Why we don't just put a bloody big wall round that place, I don't know.

Yes quite right - sky news is a very balanced news service owned by the Murdoch empire who also own the far right news broadcaster Fox News!

In fact I wouldn't trust any media to give a balanced opinion about Afghanistan - all seems like propaganda and indoctination - a tool very successfully used during the Great War and World War Two (and not forgetting the 45 minute Weapons of Mass Destruction!!!)

Whatever - but if you want to be indoctrinated into what the media wants you to believe (especially the Murdoch family) then thats fine with me, as its your life and your beliefs (or should that be the media's beliefs)

But one last question and one I keep repeating and no one seems to answer (now why is that???)  when have I ever lied on this forum?

Patronising people is not good form.....but Sky news is absolute garbage.  Their fact-checking is continuously shown to be almost non-existent and they carry serious political bias.  It's not on a par with Fox, but it's nearly useless as anything other than a source for headlines.

Ultimately, both wars are a result of Straussian political theory in application.  Due to people like Wolfowitz taking Strauss's political philosophy as sacrosanct we are currently embroiled in two very costly and very badly planned wars.  Iraq was always going to go the way it has, but then that is the point if you understand anything of Straussian theory.  Afghanistan had a genuine point to it but was so badly mismanaged as to make it almost criminal.

That's like saying Liverpool is full of smackheads.

What you are seeing byenlarge is a response to their country being occupied by foreign forces. The people who our lads are fighting with now were no threat internationally.

Iraq was clearly an outrage.

We should have invaded France instead:

1. It's tradition
2. They're French
3. Usually if you wait about 5 minutes, the French will give you enough valid reasons to kick seven shades out of the lot of them (eg being French)
4. It's nearer
5. It wouldn't have cost as long
6. We could have been done and dusted in a couple of days, but kept the best bit as British territory thus
a) providing cheap holiday destinations
b) providing ongoing reasons to randomly batter the French

Blair should be lined up against the wall and shot for his short-sightedness. My vote goes readily to any party with invading France in their manifesto.
Except them fascists.
Or that other lot.
