Try Ancestry.co.uk

Or just google things like "Family Tree" or "Tracing your family" Smiley

I just did a google search and that was the first site that came up.

Try adding "Free" to the start of each search?

To be honest mate i dont think you can do that kind of thing for free, i think they realised that its a money maker so you can only put in a mini tree e.g just you and your parents.

Cheers for the help btw.

No Problem.

At one point Genes Re-united was free I think. But money rules all nowadays.

My Dad started to look into our family history about 10 years and once you get 4 or 5 generations back it gets really tough. If you're really into it and want to dive further than you have no option but to pay.

A census comes out every 10 years so it's not a bad idea getting one of those because when released it holds info of people from 100 years ago. I think we managed to work our way back to the late 1700s then decided to call it a day because it just started to cost that much.

Anyway i think were calling it a day to be honest, i think its rather bad how they make you pay to research your own bloody family!

Ask Man United 'fans'... I know of some that have been going on websites to try and trace any ancestry (sp?) to see if they have any Manchester in them... seriously.

My brother's been working on ours for a few years and he's back into the 1600s.  It helps that my mum is still alive and we remember our grandparents and great-aunts/uncles, which took us into the 1800s.  He then got documents from Births, Deaths and Marriages along with visiting the cemeteries where family were buried, which assisted in getting more names to research.

I don't think my brother's invested money into websites to get the tree.  He's got a lot of information because my grandparents were one of many children and then they had many children.

It's a really interesting thing to do.  I'd recommend you don't give up so easily.  Googled ancestry messageboards.  You can get a lot of assistance from them, too.

Another thing, believe it or not, the Mormons in Utah have a massive world database for ancestry.  Google it.
