Here is a link to what all the bookies odds are on the next Bolton manager

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/bolton-specials/next-permanent-manager

Boylesport have Jewell as 2/1 to be next manager.

You can get 25/1 on Alan Irvine Nat at Corals. I wouldn't say no to Irvine, I know this season at Preston he has had no money to work with and a very ordinary squad of players.

In my humble opinion I think the club as been considering its options for a replacement manager for several weeks now.

I'm surprised that nothing was made of the approach to the Spanish second division manager a few weeks ago - it did appear to be a genuine approach - unless someone went to the trouble of making up quite a complexed hoax - if they did then I fell for it.

If it was true, then don't expect us to go for a manager like Curbishley and Ferguson junior who where available at the time and didn't seem to interest Davies / Gartside - so I don't expect them to do now either.

I can’t see us starting to look around for a manager now – just as the transfer window suddenly opens – whoever is earmarked for the job must already have a good idea of the strength and weaknesses of the team, what transfer budget they will have, and what sort of players they need to get in.

This sort of stuff doesn’t suddenly start on the 1st January – all sorts of things go on behind the scenes well in advance of buying and selling players.

That’s my take on things anyway.

Sluffy: with all due respect, I'd be very suprised if we went for a foreign boss. The most foreign we have had in our 100+ years of history is Northern Irish. Javier Irureta was touting himself for the job when Megson was appointed and we chose the ginger one over a man who won La Liga!

I'd be very suprised if we picked someone who has no experience of the English game. Considering our fiances, I'd imagine we'd go for someone unemployed and English i.e Paul Jewell.  Sad

I'd be surprised to DH - but apparently we DID make an approach if this is to be believed. -

http://www.burndenaces.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2000.0.html

I reckon we already know who we will be appointing – and that they already have spoken in depth with Gartside / Davies – and that they will have already stated which players they want to bring in / let go.  It’s far to near the transfer window to suddenly sack Megson without having a successor plan in place.

If the approach for the Spaniard was true – and the links shown seem pretty genuine to me – then people like Jewell, Curbishley, Ferguson – who were all available at the time – are at best now second choices!

If Hughes as pocketed his money from City – then he would be a great prospect for us – but like you I don’t really see us going for someone already in a job – unless it is already a done deal for them to join us.

I just can’t believe that with the poor results we’ve had all season – and the dislike of Megson in general by the match day crowd creating such a bad atmosphere – that plans had not already been taken in the event that Megson went.

I also expected Megson knew full well what was happening to.

I like how this post was set out so I have borrowed the idea.................

Ideally: Slaven Bilic

Probably: Jewell/Curbishley/Reid (to early to say currently)

Dreamland: Owen Coyle

Wouldn't mind: Mark Hughes with Gary Speed (assistant)

Would fúcking detest: Jewell/Southgate/Curbishley

Either Bilic because he seems to want to play football as well as being very resilliant and he's a very passionate guy, quite the opposite from Megson.

Or Hughes & Speed, this I think would offer a bit of instant stability before going forward for a few years and then handed over to Speedo if he has the right stuff about him later down the line.

Owen Coyle would be the dream option, be nice to have him working with our players, I think after 6months or so we could be playing like Stoke, Birmingham atm if resources are given to him too but we shall wait and see.............

I'm in for that idea...

Ideally: Mark Hughes/Owen Coyle

Probably: Peter Reid/Paul Jewell

Dreamland: Jose Mourinho

Wouldn't mind: Alan Curbishley, Alan Shearer (wouldn't be popular choice but I think he'd be alright)

Would fúcking detest: Souness, Megson returning (wouldn't put it past our lot), Steve Coppell, Alan Irvine, Bryan Robson, anyone bobbins like that

Why do so many people want Bilic? He has had no club experience, he failed to get Croatia even in the play offs for the World Cup Qualification. Is it because they finished ahead of England when we had Steve McLaren as boss? I just don't get the Bilic talk.

God that list doesn't make for good reading. There's like 5 people in the entire list who'd be happy with. From being delighted this morning, I'm now dreading finding out who we get.

The worrying thing is that some bookies have stopped taking bets and the ones who are make Jewell huge favourite. Paul Jewell? Oh man. He is not a man to take this club forward.

so far there seem to be a lot of suggestions backed up with little thought.

Keegan?  Surely his name is only even being suggest as he's the anti-Megson?  Unfortunately he shares two characteristics with Megson - no idea how to organise a defence and a borderline personality disorder - while megson was paranoid, kk is flakier than a flake with dandruff and 3 day old sun burn.

Hughes is the level of manager we'd like, but is he realistically one we'd get?  And if he couldn't get citeh's lot defending what hope has he with Gladys Knight and the pits?  Hughes probably has his sights set higher than us.

Coyle - unfortunately not likely to move, why would you take a step backward when you've the chance to be a legend at a club?

Irvine- cheap, better than his sacking deserved but no experience at this level and the backing of the of certain poster suggests this really isn't on the cards.

Curbishley, did big things with a small unfashionable club, unlikely to rock the boat internally.  Hated by West Ham, begins to sound the perfect choice, but will be uninspiring to fans.

Southgate - heartless and too soppy.  Little experience and did nothing to suggest he would do any better at bolton.

Reid - doing well with Stoke as assistant but out of the main frame for a long time, better manager than many remember and has that club link some think needed. Unlikely to be picked.

Sourness - won't come near after he got stitched up last time.
Jewell - personally, I'm never sure about him.  He's got a decent record given the clubs he's been at but he's a scouser and you just can't trust em.
Shearer? hahaaha.no chance, he wouldn't touch us with Hansen's
Sven - maybe not as daft a call as it seems, County looks like a very big stinky turd compared to the potential diamond it did 18 months ago. But money would be the issue
Fergie Jnr - huge stigma attached to the son of the great red-nosed satan but a younger manager making a name for himself. Again lacking experience but if you are realistic (which as bolton fans is unlikely) we are most likely to go for experienced and uninspiring or young and hungry.

Some foreign jonny?  Who knows, but who'd want to come to england and face no money and a relegation scrap ?

I just have a feeling the appointment might take us by surprise though, it's only a hunch but I can't help but think a name we've not said will appear. And my nightmare is that it's Ince - a younger less melanin-deprived megson.

A good assessment of the runners and riders. I think its going to be Reid although Jewell is huge favourite with the bookies. I seem to remember seeing Gartside and Reid in the past quite pally and I rate Reid as a manager, he was fantastic at Sunderland. I also think that Jewell was available when we went for Megson, that would suggest that Gartside doesn't really fancy Jewell.
I don't see who else is a real contender. I think Hughes and Coyle are the two outstanding choices but I don't think would come, not right now anyway. But also good point about Hughes couldn't sort a defence out at City with like £80m worth of defenders so not sure how he could sort ours out.

Another I really don't want who hasn't really been mentioned is David O'Leary. He would pretty much just continue what Megson did I reckon, he wouldn't be quite as bad but he's no ambition either. I personally think they may already have it sewn up, it's just a case of the guy actually coming to Bolton to sign the deal, being spotted on the way in, and Sky Sports News breaking the story.

You can't vote for them in the other thread, so I'll raise them here...

1. Trappatoni - Done an excellent job at Ireland, if we paid him a bit of money he would definitely keep us up and make us hard to beat.

2. Djorkaeff - Not gonna happen but he's a legend who would surely inspire fans and players alike. Djorkaeff and Speed combo anyone?

3. Dan Petrescu - Surely the Bolton job is more attractive than a Russian second division team. As I said earlier, can we hope for a Clough style u-turn?

4. Mark Hughes - Did a good job at Blackburn, would be a popular choice.

I can't see any of these coming to Bolton, but surely for Gartside paying a bit more for a manager to save us from relegation and get the all important league finish money from higher up the table is better than getting relegated and in Bolton's current state if we are relegated we are finished.

I dont rate jewell or peter reid as managers at this level, i just think we would be with similar style managers than megson if we brought them 2 in.

Does Gartside still have Samson Siasia's number, the sad thing is I was near Ruabon today, I should have gone there and begged Hughes to join us.

Try and keep it all in one thread, saves clogging up the board with similar threads and there is an 'Other' option on the poll in the main thread so if you've voted for that, your reasoning from this will fit that.

Merging.

I don't want any ex-Bolton player to get the job.

Too many of you are getting over-sentimental about ex-Wanderers.
