I had a heated debate on Saturday night with a mate about this.
I argued that when you put fuel in your tank, it's perfectly reasonable to leave your car there and pay. He argued that you should move your car so others can use the tank when you're paying.
He nearly lost the head when I told him I often not only leave my car there when paying, but I also eat my sandwich/lunch at the pump (takes 5 mins top). He thinks I'm cutting my nose off to spite my face.

At most petrol stations there isn't room to go anywhere else after you've filled the tank. It probably takes a minute to fill up and another 2 to pay. People are coming and going all the time so you win this argument.

If you press the trigger more then the petrol comes out quicker. I'm not a pensioner or a woman either so it doesn't take me 10 minutes to walk to the counter and pay.

I leave my car there then go to pay, I don't roll it forward. However, why would you sit in your car for 5 minutes after filling up?!

I like to take a flask, and stop for a brew and a crafty smoke after filling up. Seems to cause a right old panic.

I take it no one on here has the good sense to use Tesco's pay at the pump service? If you want a sandwich go in a shop, not a petrol station for pity's sake!

Too much pissing about, I've tried it before and it's bollocks. It's quicker to walk to the counter and pay there!

Is it chunks as like. I don't know what you did but I'll explain the actions required: Pull up, flip the switch for the cap, press the pay at pump option, put card in, type number/enter, take card out, fill up, put hose back on, put cap back on, get in car, fúck off. Or alternatively: Pull up, flip the switch for the cap, press the pay at counter option, fill up, put hose back on, put cap back on, walk to counter, browse as you just can't help yourself, queue, make puffing noises as the people in front of you are pissfarting about, get to the till, tell them your pump, oh no, you've forgotten, so you crick your neck to see which it is, they then tell you the price & ask if you want a mobile top up & unless you're a pauper you reply with , erm no thanks, I have a good lifestyle & so have a contract phone, you then put card in, type number/enter, take card out, walk back to the car, stopping at the newspaper stand as a headline in the Star about Jordan has caught your eye, you then get in car & fúck off. Now, I'd like to ask a time & motion expert to advise which is the more streamline action.

It makes no matter over here; you either pay via ATM at the pump station or you go in and pay UP FRONT at the counter. You can't (in California, anyway) pump the gas before paying for it, so there is no courtesy moving of the car.
Manny, you must put 10 drops of petrol in for it to be filled up in 1 minute. My car holds 14 or 16 gallons of gasoline so it takes a tad longer.
Oh, and if you keep tapping on the pump, you are going to be squeezing air into the gas tank...same as if you try and "squeeze the last drops of gas" when you are done.

That was one of the things about filling up a rental car in America, that you pay before you start to pump the fuel, most odd.

I usually fill up to the top until it stops so I don't have to go back as often, I don't want to cap how much I put in! KIOSK WINS!

You don't pay first at the pump.
After entering your PIN: it will tell you how much you are allowed to spend (usually £99 max). They just debit your account with what you spend.

I'm getting the impression Howfen really doesn't understand this pay at the pump thing & that's why he's not having any of it. I think we should just let him go to the kiosk & waste those minutes of his life. Change isn't normally well received in East Yorkshire though, to be fair.

If you pay up front at Tesco
Are you allowed to drink petrol directly from the pump?

I'll admit, I didn't know the exact procedure. Then again, it's never been explained to anyone and there are no instructions at the pump so how would anyone know? I can guarantee you spend more minutes of your life reading about Natasha/Lofthouse on here than I do stood in queues at petrol stations!

Now, I don't know for sure as I've never worked at a petrol station, but I've always been under the impression that it's illegal to move your car before you've paid, and in any case, even if you did pull forward to let the person behind pull up to the pump, the assistant isn't going to authorise the pump for use again until the amount owing against it's been paid anyway.
