Two gambling firms which sponsor Premier League clubs have been condemned for offering live betting on academy games, with fears it puts teenagers at risk of corruption. Isle of Man-based 188bet and SBObet offer online betting on under-18 games, largely to satisfy their huge client base in the Far East.

full story's here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/6361174/Premier-League-fears-corruption-after-188bet-and-SBObet-offers-betting-on-teenagers.html

Um.. I wonder why the Telegraph didn't show a picture of a West Ham or a Wigan shirt?Roll Eyes Anyway what does this mean to us? I hope that our reputation isn't spoilt by this it could take wind of the whole 'family club' thing right out of our sails.

Teenagers at the risk of corruption from betting? What a load of twaddle. Thinking it's cool to carry knives, finding gang rape full pastime & taking cocktails of drink and drugs, now they're further up the pyramid of risks in my opinion.

Unfortunately, human nature as it is any corporation (of which Bolton wanderers is part of) that seems as though its affecting the moral fibre of modern life such as teenage betting, for most people, would be seen more of a crime than that what you have listed.

If it is found out then, unfortuntaely, it could be detrimental to the "family" image of the club

Betting, like smoking, drinking and recreational drugs is addictive whether you are an adult or underage.  You have to question why our club...stated to be a family club...would even want to consider a company based in gambling to be its sponsor.  Were we struggling that hard to find a sponsor?

Doubt it, I just presume that 188Bet offered moremoney than anyone else to be our shirt sponsor - money talks more than anything else.

Am I right in thinking that Reebok actually didn't pay to be our shirt sponsor and were only on our shirts as a goodwill gesture until a true sponsor was found?

Why shouldn't a betting firm have a right to advertise? It's not illegal, it's a legitimate business allowed to advertise.
How about people take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming everyone else when they're addicted to something whether it be legal or not.
Shall be ban alcohol from the ground too? The answer is no by the way.

The_Gibbon suspects the club doesn't struggle to find a sponsor, as lot of firms woul dbe happy to sponsor the club. It comes down to the money, The_Gibbon suspects that 188 offered more than anybody else. The_Gibbon is also aware that he money received from sponsorship from 188 is one of the lowest sponsorship deals in the Premier League. In fact a team lke Man Utd generate around 30 times more per year in their sponsorship, than BWFC do in theirs!

I don't see why a "family club" can't have a betting firm, brewery or anything else a shirt sponsor, it should make no difference really.

They paid the club sponsorship money but it was a comparitively small amount & certainly not as much as bet188.

I'm not averse to any of the 3 stated vices (smoking, drinking and gambling).

My point was that if this company has links to encouraging underage betting, how did we get tied up with them when we have a "family club" background to protect.

Never say never on who gets banned from the stadiums.  Smokers have been affected/banned and it wouldn't be too far fetched to get rid of the booze too.

Don't see it happening as alcohol consumption is a big part of the English culture; but as I said, never say never.
