The site has received a number of complaints about homophobic comments specifically in regards to the recently untimely death of Stephen Gately. I've no doubt the comments were said in jest but we are in the Twenty-first Century and attitudes towards homosexuality belong in the past. If Barack Obama the recent winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and President of the United States of America considers homophobia a thing of the past, then so to should Burnden Aces. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8301120.stmI was brought up in an age where 'queer bashing' was considered normal - now such things are abhorrent to me. I have worked along side gay colleagues in the past and can honestly say that I have been proud to have got to know them and become friends rather than just work colleagues over time. I know a simple statement from me won’t change anybody’s opinions over night but victimisation of gays now is only like victimisation of coloured people was some twenty plus years ago and now look how everybody feels on the issue of racism! So please, from now on, no more homophobic comments. Thank you.

Amen to that Sluffy. I was "accused" of being a gay-lover/homo-lover by a couple of people on the official board because of my pro choice stance and live and let live attitude...throw in the fact that I have a gay nephew and two gay in-laws on my ex-hubby's side (my children's aunt and uncle). Why, in this day and age, people are offended by another's sexual orientation is beyond me. The way I see it, any capacity to love another human being, be they opposite sex or same sex is something to cherish. Just MY opinion.

The remark as now been removed.
Racist remarks are illegal, homophobic ones are not - but are now unwelcome.
I may well be an idiot, I may well get things wrong - but I do believe the site complies with the law, so feel free to report our site to whom ever you wish, whenever you want - we have nothing to hide.

People that hate gays are total idiots, just because they're different to themselves.... or are they? They might be in denial!
As long as a gay lad doesn't try it on with you when he knows you're straight, there's nothing wrong with them. That's the only thing about gay people that piss me off, otherwise as long as they keep it to themselves it's fine by me.
Has anyone else noticed that gay people always seem to be more successful than straight people, wonder why that is, because they're more intelligent? No, because they don't have women nagging them and bringing them down!

Wakey is correct. I don't pay him but he gets fed any left overs, is allowed one day off per week and has his own quarters so I'd say he doesn't get a bad deal.

Would it be homophobic to quote Eminem?
Edit - removal of Eminem's lyrics - see post below for explanation.

Ok, I've had a complaint about Jimbo's post. Is it right to leave the post up or wrong? This is what I've done though - I first checked out that the song lyrics were indeed correct - they are - they are from a song called 'Criminal' - so they exist. Whilst I was searching though I found this - which is an open letter from The Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association to the then Home Secretary, Jack Straw to ban Eminem entering Britain as - "Eminem’s lyrics are dangerous because they incite hatred against homosexuals in a way that would be illegal if it were directed against racial minorities. Terry Sanderson, speaking for GALHA, said: “If this man were singing songs calling for black people to be shot or stabbed in the head there would be an outcry, and it would be illegal, but there is no law to prevent him defaming homosexuals in any way he wants". http://www.galha.org/gays-call-on-straw-to-ban-homophobic-eminemSeemed a reasonable point to me - but Eminem was allowed to tour the country. CNN commented on the issue - http://edition.cnn.com/2001/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/07/eminem.storm/So based on the fact that neither the song nor the singer has been banned by HM Government I guess that leaving the post as it is, is breaking no laws. However my personal feeling is that homophobia (just like racism) belongs in the past - so rightly or wrongly I have removed the lyrics - which can be found easily enough on the web in any event if anybody needs to read such things (I don't know why the would want to though?). I hope from now on that people will refrain from any homophobic comments in future and any found posted will be removed. If you feel the need to be homophobic then perhaps this site is not for you.

Glad to see the board is accepting its moral responsibility. Some of the people who take the mickey out of 'gays' probably don't realise that some of their own friends, children, cousins, brothers, etc, may be gay but have chosen not to 'come out'. We are what we are and cannot help how we were born. As Gordon Sumner so succinctly put, " We share the same biology regardless of ideaology." I have worked with a number of 'gay' people over the years and they were no different than myself. By the same token I have worked with a number of 'straight people' who, if I never met again, it would still be too soon.

I see no problem with keeping it on like you say, it's the lyrics of a pretty famous rapper & possibly not the actual thoughts of Jumbo.I'm not sure why people do make complaints, why not just PM the person in question & mention it to them if you dislike their post. Anybody with any problems with me or my posts & I'd be happy to tell them to **k off discuss it with them.

Had this been a thread about censorship or music lyrics Jumbo's post would have been fine.
But it was posted for no other reason than to write something homophobic.
Fair play to you for removing it sluffy, but surely if you started banning the people responsible we wouldn't have to go through this again (as we no doubt will).
If racism or homophobia doesn't get a ban from BA I'd like to know what does?

There is outright offensive homophobia and there is also having a laugh, maybe there is a fine line between the two i don't know.
But to start deleating peoples posts , i think is taking it a bit too far unless it really is offensive.
Most post on here, i like to think are written with tounge firmly in cheek, (most of mine are) i think people are reading way to much into other peoples posts and not taking them as intended.
Whoever keeps coplaining to you Sluffy needs to get a fcuking life IMO, For fucks sake this is an internet forum that is moderated fairly by 3 really nice guys but i'm sorry if people find stuff offensive on here my advice to them would be, don't fcuking read it.
The main reasons i come on here and WW is because i think it is funny and i like to have a laugh, please don't drag this site to censorship.

But something you find funny I might find offensive and vice versa. If Jimbo had given some reason for posting something about killing gays and lesbians then fair enough, but he did it just because he could. Archie, if you want a censorship-free website I suggest it is you who looks elsewhere for your entertainment. The mods keep claiming this is a family site and therefore homophobia and racism have no place whatsoever. I've been called allsorts of names on here, many by you, and I can see the funny side. But when whole groups of people are targeted I think the line has to be drawn. At the end of the day this is a BWFC site, I don't really see the need for a 'General Banter' part of the site.

I’m no expert in homophobia – I’m just a product of my upbringing and education. I’ve come a long way during my lifetime from ignorance and ridicule to acceptance and friendship.
My daughter who is only 13 asked me once what would I do if she decided that she was gay? My answer without hesitation was to tell her that I would still love her. And I would.
I’ve always tried to be fair and reasonable and I do get things wrong – so I’m sorry if anyone feels that my modding on this issue as been wrong. I can’t change the world – I can’t even change the way people think on a tiny football forum like Burnden Aces but at least I can try.
I’ve already stated on the forum that homophobic comments will be modded from now on – I don’t mean it to be censorship as such but a form setting a standard.
Whichever way I go on this will no doubt upset people – but they are upset if I do nothing anyway.
Thirty years ago racism and homophobia was the norm – now it isn’t – I’m just moving with the times and I hope others will move with me.

Glad to see i evoked a mass reaction from someone who was bothered enough by me copying and pasting a lyric from someone i've never met and certainly don't agree with all their views!(Rapping about raping your own mother goes a bridge to far for me!)
Sluffy just got your PM and no problem at all mate, i expected it to be moderated if i'm honest. I just posted it because i think it's a great lyric and i'll use it at chance i get-i saw 'homophobic comments' and went zooom i'm in reply reply reply-not to wind anyone up, not to intentionally flout your rules(although it appears it might have done that if someone was genuinally bothered by it) and not because i hate gays or because i'm an evil homophobic person who agrees with what it was that was said. I wonder who complained, and i'd be willing to make a wild bet that it wasn't somoene gay, i'd also like to make an even wilder bet that said person wasn't offended, more trying to get me kicked off the site. I won't name names.
I don't appriciate being refered to as homophobic although if whoever thinks i am would like to discuss it with me via PM i've absoultly no problem in doing so.
P-S just to comment on the thing about Eminem you found Sluffy, i think it's ridiculous to assess what he said as:
"Terry Sanderson, speaking for GALHA, said: “If this man were singing songs calling for black people to be shot or stabbed in the head there would be an outcry"
I didn't know "words"("my words are like a dagger with a jagged edge") could literally stab you? Obviously Terry Sanderson knows better. Complaints like that stink of bandwagon jumping. Like the people who sit around listening out for something offensive on the TV so they can ring up and complain.
I certainly do not promote racist or homophobic beliefs.
