Nope not a quote from Megson or Gartside but the Chairman of Blackburn. Why am I posting this on a Bolton Forum - because Blackburn are having trouble balancing the books. Players wages are up - expected income is down - and to put it simply they couldn't afford to pay the players wages this year - so they have had to sell players - with about half the sales going to buy (cheaper) replacement players and the other half being put to meet the players wages (around £12.5 million extra over last season and this!). The Chairman is counting on next years new Sky deal to bring them in more money to pay the wages - otherwise they can't manage - it is unsustainable! He expects there to be another £20 million on top of what Sky pays now - let me just stress that - on top of what they get now. The reason I stressed it was he goes on to say "To put that into perspective, this year’s total ticket revenue (season ticket sales and match day home & away sales) is £7m". So everybody paying to see Blackburn at Ewood will pay over a season just £7 million, whilst the club's Chairman expects Sky to be paying them next season about £60 million (around £40 million now, plus a further £20 million extra next season. I'm banging on about this because I've no doubt whatsoever that Bolton will be doing similar sums - staying in the Premiership will probably bring £60 million a year - pissing all the fans going to the game will lose them only £7 million. You do the maths. The interview is shown in the link below - it's not easy reading - but if you want to know where the money goes in Premier clubs then it's worth the read. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburnrovers/news/4584054.Blackburn_Rovers_chairman_answers_critics_over_transfer_cash/Perhaps Natasha as hit on something about turfing the fans out and building corporate box stadiums only. Perhaps it is the future!

He seems to be under the impression that Blackburn are a 'big' club which is the root of their problems. They won the league because Jack Walker bought it for them. Prior to that they had been a mid table second division club for years and that's probably where they'd still be if it wasn't for the Walker Trust. In fact whilst we were pulling in average crowds of over 20,000 in the late 70's, they were struggling to get half that number through the turnstiles. The current cash crisis is nature's way of reminding them that they're a small club in a small town.

Yes but if we have no fans....
less players will want to play for us i dont take your argument money talks players still want too play in front of large amounts of fans not dwindelling attendances...
less players attracted too us = less quality players playing for us...
which in return will eventually mean relegation...
which means no revenue..
things need to be balanced out theres no point getting aload if money to pay average players (the only we could attract if we averaged 10,000 fans a week) massive wages
getting rid of the fans may work in the short term but in the long term will seriously fcúk the club as relegation is never inevitible.
everbody gets the money issue but a balance needs to be struck unless do you think if we ever went down league 1 we would get 23,000 as Norwich did last week? no because the current climate at the club is driving masses of fans away.

Players play for money 188.
Stoke have signed Huth and Tuncay - believe me they are not going there because they want to play in front of the Britannia Stadium crowd!
Players will play behind closed doors if the money is right.

What says that they'd want to play at all?, "Can you just pipe all that money into my bank account please Mr Abramovich?" You can just imagine Ben Haim saying that, well I can at least.

Do you really think so Sluffy? Because i don't, i'm sure they take many factors into consideration yes money being high up on the list but if Tuncay had the option to join us or Stoke and was offerd the same wages... but to play in front of a bigger and more passionate crowd then he would choose the latter every time.
Remember there are about 12 clubs in the premiership who are all in the same boat as Bolton with roughly the same amount of money to spend on wages, players etc so more or less we are all on level playing field so what would make one club stick out from the other, the fans, the manager? of course players play first and foremost for the money but they still want to play infront of the biggest passionate loudest crowds possible, and take other factors into consideration when moving clubs imo playing at passionate loud and full stadiums would be high.

Not sure of the figures but didn't we lose millions last season? and dont you think if we had quality players like Blackburn the club would have sold them, but we dont and thats why there where few or no offers for our players.

Quality? Go on then, who's so great who plays for them? Apart from De La Cruz, who they sold incidentally.

Personally I think that Blackburn do have some quality in they're ranks, but saying that I also believe that we do too. The problem with the Dingles squad is that you can never tell if they're quality possessions are going to give a sh*te about the match or not. McCarthy, Pedersen, Diouf, Chimbonda etc etc. They're a temperamental lot too.

I'd say you got his name completely wrong but hey thats just me I'm sure Ulyses de la Cruz is happy though that you referred to him as quality... ! If you want to get all pedantic, you'd better make sure all your posts are perfect or someone may just try and make you look silly. Please don't challenge my football/general knowledge to try and score points. I'm better than that.

i thought you'd get all mardy about the joke hence why i just modified my post above to something that may suit your sensibilities a little better.
Point being, you were so quick to challenge the guy on the previous page about 'quality' that it seemed only fair to point out the irony that you'd then made such a boo-boo about the player's name. Peculiar with somebody of your football knowledge as you say. But i see now that you're a giver and not a taker, fair enough.

Yes I do 188. Why do you think players are suddenly queuing up to play for Stoke - Huth £5 million Tuncay £5 million Kitson £5.5 million Higginbotham £2 million Soares £2 million Tonge £2 million Beattie £3.5 million Fuller £.5 million Dean Whitehead - £3 million Ibrahima Sonko - £2.25 million Abdoulaye Faye - £2.25 million Matthew Etherington - £3.5 million Diego Arismendi - £2.6 million Danny Collins - £2.75 million The answer is down to money - Bolton - owned by Eddie Davies (personal wealth £66 million) - club £53.5 million in debt. Stoke - part owned by Peter Coates who owns Bet365 (personal wealth £400 million) - and I believe up to this transfer window did not have any debt! http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle6168746.eceStoke can afford the transfer fee AND the wages - we can't. Stoke - believe it or not - are on the way up. I don't honestly think the same can be said for us. So if you had a choice between a club that could pay you what you wanted, was buying more and better players and who were probably likely to be at worse mid table this year - or a club in financial difficulty, with the smallest squad in the Premiership and seemingly looking in potential relegation trouble - who would you pick? Not rocket science really! Oh and a bit of trivia - Stoke's assistant boss is non other than a Mr Peter Reid

I wasn't pointing out an error, I wanted to know who the poster thought was so much better than anyone in our squad, but do carry on butting in.
